small differences I can make will be big differences in lives of others.
Additional Notes
The interviewee in this paper is my brother. A person who has influenced, impacted, and changed my life for better and for worse. I am who I am because of him and hurt the way I hurt because of him. He is loved, cared about, and valued. Just as the ones, whose lives he took were loved, cared about, and valued. His life matters but their lives mattered too. That night happened and nothing will ever be the same again. We will never be able to fully grasp the pain, sadness, and sorrow that the families of the victims have had and always will endure. Coming to terms that it was my brother, who was capable of doing such awful things, will never be easy. Observing other loved ones realize and accept that their choices and actions affected my brother’s life has also been difficult. I do not feel that there is any one person to blame but every moment of significance to his reality is an important piece to the puzzle. Disclosing this information was a big risk, and I have accepted it was an important step to take. No matter what, I have learned that these experiences are also my truth and not something that I can continue to hide from. Living this has made and continues to make me—me. It is a part of my story and always will be.
