Examples Of Child Observation

Observation: In this video, a 2-3 year old boy is at what appears to be a daycare by the looks of it. In the beginning of the video he is seen playing with 2 other boys going down a slide on his stomach. After sliding down the little boy runs to go play toys with 2 little girls and copying what they are doing with the toys like dropping them and placing them in spots. He finds a toy, and soon becomes uninterested until he sees another boy playing with it and he starts playing with it again. At this point, he doesn’t make any noises such as laughs, squeals, yelling, etc. He seems to be a shy little boy that likes to be around people but is okay with not having to associate himself with them. He is able to sit on his own, stand, walk, run and hold himself up on a side. He is in Piaget's preoperational stage. This toddler shows fine motor skills when he is able to pick up the toys, he has the concept of circular reactors when he would put the balls in another toy where the balls would spin down, make noise and then he would do it again after hearing the noise and the reaction of putting the balls in the toy. He shows mental combinations when he sees the other children playing with the toys and he comes and does it himself. With his language development, he appears to be shy and not really into screaming, crying or feeling distressed. During the video there are many occasions where he wants to say something, but the words just went come out. Whenever he heard a baby cry, he showed interest which is inborn emotions. Based on this video, the toddler seems to be a slow-to-warm-up child.
