Cognitive development is characterized by the way a child learns, acquires knowledge and interacts with his surrounding environment. Different cognitive skills are acquired as a child meets certain developmental milestones, but a child of any ability will benefit from activities that promote active learning. This week the ways I observer the child’s cognitive development was through identifying noises and practicing the alphabet, and counting. The student I observed did very well as far as identifying sounds and practicing the alphabet, and counting. He would pause for a second or two before he finally gave an answer.
Social development involves learning the values, knowledge and skills that enable children
to relate to others effectively and to contribute in positive ways to family, school and the community. Through their relationships with others and their growing awareness of social values and expectations, children build a sense of who they are and of the social roles available to them. The social development that was observed was the friendships and relationships he had with other children and the teacher.
Physical development refers to a child’s ability to move, coordinate and control their body. The child im obdeserving is a very active child. He is constantly in motion even when its time to have a seat.
