Discrimination is the unjust treatment of people or things. Unfortunately it has been around for ages and it is encountered mostly in workplaces and on the internet. Currently it is still a common issue, not just in the American society, but worldwide. Healthcare systems are not exempted from this unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things. Nevertheless, this society now needs to see beyond any type of discrimination in medical practice, be it physician to the patient or vice versa, because current mortality rates need to change, because doctors need to live by their oath to treat patients equally and because our society needs change.

Age, income, religion, even disability is used as a “reason” to shame and discriminate individuals. Now like race, income is a major contributor of sickness. “Families with lower incomes tend to live in substandard housings, have less access to healthy food options, and have greater risk factors than those with higher incomes (Smith 2). These people usually cannot afford health plans or life insurances that would guarantee a more effective treatment, they also struggle more when taking care of their health. Similar to this type of discrimination, there is something called the equal pay or compensation issues. This is a gap in gender inequity and it has to do with men with men and women’s pay. It becomes discriminating if for example, men or women in the workplace are not given equal pay for equal work (U.S Equal Employment). Oddly enough a minority group which refers to a category of people differentiated from the social minorities tend to be the increasing population of the United States (U.S). Minorities also have many obstacles when it comes to health care. “It is well established that minorities in the U.S. experience more illnesses, worse outcomes, and premature deaths” (Tello). Because they cannot afford it or because they are another race, minorities struggle the most when they are, usually, the most that need services. While different patients may need different treatments, everyone's rights should be equal. “Doctors take an oath to treat all patients equally yet not all patients get treated equally well; mounting research finds discrimination in health care for minorities” ( Tello; Schroeder). No one should seek for medical help and be treated a certain way. Minorities should never live for that differential and unequal treatment these days. Societies negative affiliation toward minorities should change, discrimination should
