While researching one parent choosing to stay home and raising children, I found supporting and opposing information. I found articles and books on money being a focus for both parents working.…
These parents are also known as the “uninvolved parents”, and uninvolved is exactly what they are. I like to describe these parents as the “lazy parents”. They don’t care what actions the child takes and does not support, encourage, or regulate the child in any way. (Ballantine) Neglectful parents also do not show any warmth or nurture to their child and only give them the bare necessities such as food and shelter. (Walton) According to Watson, neglectful parents find themselves being too busy or self-involved that they don’t have the “time” to teach their children life skills, support them in school, or be there for any recreational activities. Children that are raised by neglectful parents often think that are unimportant and have an incredibly low sense of self-esteem. They tend not to do well in school, develop anxiety, depression and often feel lonely and end up feeling withdrawn from society.…
A change in employment can alter a parent’s income, working hours, travelling time and energy levels; which will ultimately affect all family members. Parents may have to adjust routines in order to meet their new demands, this could include making dinner later because they are required to work back later. Children may also have to take on additional responsibilities for the parent’s to cope with the change. For instance, the eldest sibling might have to watch their younger siblings after school before their parents return home from work, or may have to give up leisure and sporting activities as the parent’s working hours may not accommodate for it. The other parent may be required to take on more roles too, such as cooking dinner or taking children to and from activities on certain…
Parents often try to balance their role in the family as well as their role in the workforce. After the birth of the child parents are to make decisions about staying home or returning to work.…
Working class parents can not find it in their schedules to reserve time for looking after children. In addition, parents who work in jobs that pay minimum wage or below “are caught in a double bind. The lower their earnings, the more inflexible their job.” Parents cannot afford to lose their job over trying to supervise their children. Especially when they work in jobs that they could easily be laid off and replaced.…
Financial issues cause parents to spend less time together with their kids dues to extra hours spent working. Parents become tired, anxious and frustrated. This can create negative interaction with children.…
I don’t believe any parent is work in the way they choose to raise their children however, one must always keep in mind children grow and experience different people and eventually things change, beliefs , values and insight change once they educate themselves and share different views with peers everything that was instilled either gets stronger or change. The one thing that strikes me is…

Children in families with absent fathers are more vulnerable compared to the children in families, where two parents are present. Self-appraisal in children with absent fathers is quite low, as these children suffer from their mother's emotional crisis, as well as her attempts to replace the role that the father is supposed to play, as mother often tries to adhere to strict educational and behavioural strategies, while neglecting traditional mother's traits of character, such as care, maternal love and attitude, and tolerance to children. At the same time, such change in behaviour has negative impact on child's self-esteem, sense of self-reliance, and positive self-appraisal in general.…
Uninvolved parenting can cause the child to develop a low self-esteem and have little confidence(Source F). The children can also end up hating themselves or others, hiding their feelings, avoiding feelings; being withdrawn, disrespectful, distrustful; and perform poorly on their own(Source F). Another way a parent can cause the child to not perform well on their own is being a “helicopter mom”. Helicopter parenting is when the parent “hovers” over their children and overly monitor their children's social lives and activities(Source C). This can cause the children to “lack maturity, self-reliance, self-esteem, and good old-fashioned gumption”(Source C).…
If a child's parents take an active role in school, such as going to parent-teacher meetings and attending shows, this will help the child's overall growth. However, if the child's parents disagree on how to best raise the child and give the child conflicting lessons, this will discourage the child's development.…
The effects of divorce on society are far reaching, and long lasting. They are not what many would think, such as a drain financially on society, and the welfare system. There are huge impacts psychologically for all parties involved; the children, wives, and husbands. Although there are some instances where divorce is the only way to provide stable homes, such as high conflict rates, there are others where the children would benefit more if the parents worked on the relationship, such as low conflict rates. Although there will always be divorce, one of the lesser known side effects of divorce can be avoided, and possibly stopped. This is a horrible and completely avoidable occurrence, Parental Alienation…
With all the things a single parent need to do, he/she lack social time with their kids. Communication is an important element to make the family strong. Most single parents have more than one job or go back to school for a better paying job in order to support financial needs and so he/she leaves their kids to a…
In today’s society where one must work hard to provide for their family, most parents work outside the home leaving little time to invest in their child’s education.…
I am working with the Greene County Court House. I observe a few different types of court cases such as Sessions, Magistrates, Juvenile, and Criminal court. During recess I ask a series of questions from surveys about PAS to random people that come through there. PAS is a recent study about a parent becoming alienated from their child's life following a divorce. I chose this project, because PAS interested me, and I am a Criminal Justice major, so I thought it would be good to do something in my field of study.…
