It’s almost a fact that everybody has a friend that’s always happy or that's always brings out something good of a bad situation, then compare that person with another person that doesn’t live life that way, and look if that way of thinking make a difference. Julie Beck interviews Dr. Rick Hanson, a neuropsychologist, about ways in which people can adopt a happy lifestyle. The first point explained by Dr. Henson is that our brains tend to focus on the negative, which leaves people stressed and unhappy. Dr. Hanson reasons that people need to take positive experiences seriously. In other words, he wants people to “sink positive experiences” deep in people’s brains. Dr. Henson calls this concept “taking in the good.” If people want to achieve this mindset, first they have get rid of positive thinking and adopt clear thinking, which put it briefly means to take into account positive and negative experiences. By relating a little story of evolution, Dr. Hanson arrives to the conclusion that positive…

The causes of positive thinking can be traced back to the “Age of Downsizing” and the spread of, at best, weak science. The “Age of Downsizing”, which began in the 1980’s and continued through the 90’s, began in an effort from large corporations to increase their bottom lines by decreasing the numbers in their workforces. One of the unfortunate effects of this systematic slicing and dicing of lives is a demoralized workforce. Thus, corporations faced a dilemma: how to keep up the morale of the remaining workers. The answer? Positive thinking. Since the ‘80’s and…

However, success is about working hard toward something and achieving a goal. Each and every person should set small goals for themselves on a regular basis. Setting small goals will then lead to setting even bigger goals since you know you can accomplish small ones. When those goals are met, in addition to being feeling elated, you will also feel better about yourself knowing you were successful in accomplishing a goal that you had previously set. Everybody’s definition of success is different, however, success can only be attained if you work hard toward it because nothing will ever come easy in…

A study done by Professor Barbara Fredrickson proves that positive thinking is better for bodies and minds. Fredrickson states, “Positive emotions expand our awareness, our ability to take in more and to see the bigger picture is facilitated.” (Malcolm). Here, she’s basically saying that if positivity is used then more minds will be open to suggestions and will see even more opportunities. A positive mindset can help physical health as well. “Having more moments of that open mindset helps us connect with others and it helps us build our resilience and our physical health because we become more energetic.” (Malcolm). Fredrickson is telling us that negative thinking causes bodies to have less energy and makes people moody which is never satisfying. When a positive attitude is used, it can be easy to notice by others and they can then tell if someone is approachable. “With positive emotions, there is more of an easiness in the torso and I think that’s consequently because other people can pick up and let others know that you’re safe to approach.”(Malcolm). Being visibly kind and approachable makes others want to be kind back and could possibly make them think positively as well. Positive thinking is a major factor of mental health and can directly affect multiple things in…

The article states that in today’s day and age, optimism has become a desirable characteristic, as well as an important part of human functioning. Optimism produces positive moods and serves as a motivator. In the article it states that “if a positive mood can be encouraged over period of time then access to positive emotions is inevitable and experiencing positive illusions can become a natural occurrence”. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as a state of well-being in which the individual realized his or her own abilities, they can cope with the normal stresses of life, and they can work productively, and are able to make a contribution to his or her community. Psychologists treat optimism as a cognitive characteristic (ex. Information processing, conceptual resources, perceptual skills, language learning, and other brain development). The importance of maintaining good mental health is crucial to living a long and healthy life. Personal health and wellness goes well beyond an absence of major mental illnesses or psychological disorders. Personal wellness involves the ability to enjoy life, to enjoy the present moment without worrying excessively about the future, having a healthy balance between work, recreation, family, and hobbies, and having the ability to deal with stress without becoming pessimistic, angry, or defeated. The mood that is experienced can influence the way an individual views his or her life. The way we process information can be altered depending on the mood being experienced, which in turn can affect our thoughts (Smith and Crabb, 2000). Positive emotion is related to longevity (Danner, Snowden, and Friesen, 2001). When people experience a positive feelings, their immunity increases and their bodies become more capable of…

What does success mean to you? Success is the ability to overcome challenges and to get to your desired outcome. Success depends on you, it is dependent only on what your desired outcome is. According to Abraham Lincoln success is expressed as “always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” Abraham is expressing the importance of the resolution of success. I agree with Abraham there is nothing better than the resolution to succeed. To be more successful you have to make changes in your life, some of these changes are not so easy and conflict with yourself but in order to succeed there must be a change. This year I have to make some changes to myself in order to succeed.…

Positive thinking is very important; I will consider it critically important if a person want to reach to the psychological comfort. Positive psychology according to Psychology Today is “the logical investigation of what makes life most worth living. It is a call for mental science and practice to be as worried with quality as with shortcoming; as intrigued by building the best things in life as in repairing the most exceedingly bad; and as worried with making the lives of typical individuals satisfying as with recuperating pathology."Positive psychology is not a new focus as Antonovsky (1979), Rogers(1951) and Carl (1954) have investigated and proposed in an activity what is needed for a good…

James Allen describes one of the best analogies on the power of positive thinking that I have ever read in his timeless classic “As a Man Thinketh.” He likens the mind to a garden. If planted with beautiful plants and carefully nurtured and tended to, the garden will yield beautiful flowers and be a place of comfort, beauty and peace. If neglected, weeds will creep in and destroy the beauty and yield thorns, destruction and harshness. Of-course, some twisted or strange gardener may actually deliberately plant weeds and unpleasant plants.…
