Extreme Sports Essay Task 7.11
Extreme sports can fascinate, thrill, or terrify us. They’re dangerous but a lot of athletes still participate in these sports. As Rabindranath Tagore says, “You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.” The author is basically saying you can’t just think about it, if you want it to happen, you have to do something about it. While some believe extreme sports are for those who are reckless and insane, I think they are or those who are willing to take chances to live life to the fullest.
I agree with Tagore, a thought or idea isn’t much unless it is put into action. For example, many of us seek a peace of mind. Some gain it by participating in extreme sports.
From the article “Extreme Sports Not About Risktaking: Study” Eric Brymer, a lecturer from the School of Human Movement Studies in Faculty of Health states that, “They also said they felt a sense of relaxation and freedom…it was like clearing the mind in meditation.” If these people were to just wish for peace but not do anything about it, or in other words, “stare into the sea”, no peace would be gained.

These kids have problems dealing with life because of Autism and instead of waiting for a miracle to happen, they attend this getaway to get the most out of life. As stated in “Camp for
Kids with Autism Offers Extreme Therapy,” “Most of the campers come back, year after

yearfor another taste of extreme.”
Many would say “living life to the fullest” is reckless and can result in death. For example, Geoffrey Robson, a brilliant mathematician from the University of Stellenbosch,
