Family, Career, And Community Leaders Of America
Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America has been a large part of my life. It has influenced me in a big way. Running for state office and earning my position has been my biggest accomplishments in my high school career. I am the face of our organization and have been working with my State Adviser to make Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America as successful as possible. I put together meeting agendas, meet with state senators and representatives, and collaborate with other state officers to organize leadership academies for our members. I have had the honor and responsibility to work on a council with eight other people. We all work together to help our members and ourselves grow. Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America has been the ultimate leadership experience for me. As chapter president, I organized multiple community service events where we collected new, unused socks for the homeless. Our second community service was collecting food for the food pantry and donating it. There are many different values …show more content…
This includes stocking vending machines with my adviser. Another volunteer experience I have had is setting up tables and chairs with our local Lion’s Club for their Fall Bazar. The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…

It was an amazing feeling to give to the community in that way. I was selected as the master of ceremony for our yearly Veterans Day Assembly this year also. It was an honor to be able to lead the assembly and make sure that the veterans were honored for their true acts of bravery. Also through National Honor Society, I planned a Red Out at a basketball game, a Cardiac Ball, and a 3-on-3 tournament in order to spread awareness and collect donations for the American Heart Association. We ended up raising 2,000 dollars for such a great cause!…

Towards the beginning of the school year I took a trip to Greencastle Walmart with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and participated in our local program of handing out fifty $25 Walmart gift cards to families who looked as if they could use some help purchasing school supplies for their kids. We walked around to see different families at the checkouts and asked if we could help pay for their bill. We told them we were with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and received an anonymous donation to help families for school supplies and would like to bless their family. It felt very rewarding to help out families in our own community. Helping to fulfill fifty families needs in one night is something that I will never forget. It has…

The public is often sympathetic towards those individuals who are aggrieved by a serious illness. This is demonstrated by the extensive organizational and individual efforts that have been made to raise funds for cancer research and to administer aid to those individuals battling this dreadful disease. Alternatively, AIDS victims generally do not receive the same level of widespread support and compassion. There has been a perpetual sense of shame attached to AIDS and there are members of society who judge AIDS sufferers as being sexual deviants and squarely blame them for their predicament. However, beliefs regarding this issue have often been framed on misconceptions. For example, the AIDS population is not exclusively comprised of individuals who contracted the disease by engaging in sexual activity, but in reality this group is quite diverse. Moreover, the public sector has played a role in not only augmenting the…

My second week at my internship I learned and worked with the different groups of people that volunteer at Cradles to Crayons. At Cradles to Crayons it is seasonal switch, which means the agency was switches all their spring/summer supplies to their fall/winter supplies. It was a lot of heavy lifting and organizing the clothes by gender and sizes. I worked with the volunteers and workers at Cradles to Crayons to complete the seasonal switch. I got to see how much is donated to this agency, which is a lot. It was a nice experience because I got to meet a lot of the people that work at Cradles to Crayons. I also worked with another intern and we worked with partner relations, we gave the case managers their deliveries for the week.…

The two programs that I’m most proud of was planning an annual program called Dancing with the Staff, where I got to help choose who participated in it, painted signs and banners, and made sure the program ran smoothly during the night. Another program that I was really excited to plan was a ‘Date Night” style program at the beginning of the summer. This was a really big ice breaker program, where campers were paired up together, they dress up and spend the night together playing games, talking and getting to know each other. I had such a big role in these 2 programs and I’m so happy that I had the chance to do it.…

I was a part of this organization in high school and it was definitely a great experience. This group involved several females from our school of various ages, that came together to do things for the community. It was a non-profit organization, where we held fund raisers to in return give back to our community. We had two adult leaders who help us achieve our goals for the year. Our leaders always asked us at meetings what groups we would like to help, and what type of fundraisers we would like to do to raise the money. We did various things like helping needy families, providing free school supplies for children, and helping those who were affected by disasters such as house fires. The leaders of the group always ensured that we were involved in coming up with ideas of how we could give back to our community. We always achieved good results from giving back to the community. It felt good knowing that we could help make a difference in someones life. I gained a lot of knowledge about leadership, and giving back by being a part of this organization. It was inspiring to know that we could come together and help those who were in need. I believe that the leaders involving us in the decisions and gaining an understanding of what the community needed helped us achieve good…

Volunteering at the Houston Food Bank this past Saturday I saw how much productivity was done in just the four hours that I was there. The workers are always enthusiastic and that just creates a welcoming mood for all who attend. Another thing that I like is that at the end of our volunteer hours the employees of the Houston Food Bank give the number of meals that is served from the work that the volunteers put in.
