Leaders are one of the most important parts of a team. They keep everyone organized, and tell who what to do and when to do it. But, what sets a good leader apart from a bad one? The answer would be in how these leaders conduct their work, how they get respect from their workers or team members. Love, or respect based leaders, and fear based leaders are the main two. Love or respect is a better aspect for a leader than fear because of the short and long term effects, and has many positives instead of negatives.

The article “Impact of Fear and Anxiety | Taking Charge of Your Health & Wellbeing” states many different effects of prolonged or repeated exposure to fear, leading from causing chronic anxiety, potential memory loss, immune system weakening, and some type of stress on almost every bodily system, and even premature death. A fear based leader could potentially kill his team just by weakening their bodies and mind to the point that they fall apart. The dictionary defines a tyrant as a cruel and oppressive leader. A fear based lead is exactly this, a tyrant. According to a survey conducted at Blue Earth Area High School, 80-90% of students would prefer a love based leader, based on questions asking about certain traits pertaining to both types of leaders. Some traits asked about work oriented, or friendly. But this shows that people would much more prefer to be around someone they respect in a loving manner. Everyone is their own person. But even with these differences, the base nature of humans stays the same. Humans are social creatures, and nothing will change that. As stated before, workers are more prone to develop traits of the people they are around most often, and leaders tie in here. Just as a good leader can influence more good leaders, a bad leader influences more bad leaders. And, as humans become more and more recognized, and leaders gain more power, sometimes it absorbs them and it goes to their heads.
