Fear Today Research Paper
Certain emotions shape our modern world today. They cause conflicts, improvements and realizations. Fear is one of those emotions. Fear today shapes the modern world. It is easy to tell this when thinking about it. There is some type of fear that causes every conflict. In particularly, the fear of bombs is the reason for the Cuban Missile Crisis. the Fear of Communism and capitalism has started two conflicts called the Anatomy of Invasion which consisted of two wars (Afghan-Soviet and the Vietnam-US wars). Both of these attacks later led to different outcomes, some good and some bad. But, is fear a good thing or a bad thing? If the United states did not fear of other countries having bombs, then the Cuban Missile Crisis wouldn’t have happened. This fear caused for more bombs to be made, and it created a controversy between the United States and Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis was thirteen days of controversy between soviets and The Unites States. They were conversing because there was a new missile base in cuba, which is just ninety miles away from the US. From the trustworthy source History.com it states, “13-day political and military standoff in October 1962 over the installation of nuclear-armed Soviet missiles on Cuba, just 90 miles from U.S. shores. In a TV address on October 22, 1962, President John Kennedy (1917-63) notified Americans about the …show more content…

I’ve read a lot of things about “fear.” There’s the fear of failing in the eyes of others, the fear of self-failure and God-failure, the fear of what other think about me, fears of an unknown future, and many practical fears about family and friends with their jobs and illnesses and relationships. While the kind of fears I normally deal with are important, the kind of fear Thurman writes about is different in its oppressive, relentless pursuit to dispossess and marginalize. The fear Thurman talks about is the concrete, real presence of political and religious powers who use their powers and religion to crush the spirits of people. He writes: “Fear is one of the persistent “hounds of hell” that dog the footsteps of the poor, the dispossessed, the disinherited… When the power and the tools of violence are on one side, the fact that there is no available and recognized protection from violence makes the resulting fear deeply terrifying.” And: “There are few things more devastating than to have it burned into you that you do not count and that no provisions are made for the literal protection of your person.” Of course not all fear is bad. God made us so to fear the tornado that spins on the horizon, heading our way. Not to fear this is not to care about friends and families. This is fear as, says Thurman, a “safety device.”…

Fear often becomes our worst enemy when it makes you become irrational and stops you from thinking clearly. First of all, fear can make us become overly cautious, to the point where it causes harm. In Nadine Gordimer’s novel “Once Upon a Time” a family builds a barbed wire wall because they are so afraid of the robberies and the boy decides to explore the fence and dies from being shredded by the wire “(the boy) dragged a ladder to the wall, the shining coiled tunnel...with the first fixing of its razor-teeth in his knees and hands and head he… struggled deeper into its tangle.” (Gordimer, 6 ). The family built the fence to protect themselves but it only ended up hurting them. The family’s fear ended up destroying them. Throughout my life,…

The reader is told, “Let both sides invoke the wonders of science instead of its terrors. Together let us explore the stars, conquer the deserts, eradicate disease, tap the ocean depths and encourage the arts and commerce”. The quote is implying that the nation and our allies should focus on the solution of the problem instead blaming who or what caused it. Health scares and running out of food is not always something that we consider as a nation to happen but it does to multiple people even if we did not even realize. Medicine can be a solution to help prevent from emotional stress. People do not sweat the issue of diseases as much even though they do not know the outcome because they believe. It is a for sure thing because it is facts that is backed up by recommended sources either friends, trusted sources, doctors and pharmacist. Another example to help prevent food shortage is by the community uniting and taking matters into their own hands. The way the community can give back is by donating food to their local food banks. Actions cannot make others fearful because they know they have the power to make this world a better place so they feel more fearless instead of fearful. Finally, Fear is an emotion mostly out of care. It is portrayed in current real life situations today like: veterans, homeless people, and people with…

Unfortunately, it can also lead people to do terrible things. Our fear of failure can motivate us to do great things, however we fear what we do not know and that can lead us to do things that we later regret and allow it to manipulate us. In Rwanda Hutu leaders were able to manipulate their people to believe that the Tutsis were the cause of their economic depression, famine, and that they were a threat to the Hutu’s way of life. In Lord of the Flies fear is a major theme and how fear impacts our choices. In the book Simon says " 'Maybe there is a beast....maybe it 's only us. '" (Golding 80) This quote clearly identifies how the boys begin to live on the island not just in fear of the dangerous animals or what their futures might hold, but also now they are living in fear of each other. Later in the book there is a scene where simon comes running down the beach at night and out of fear the other boys slaughter him believing that he was the beast. Likewise, in Rwanda, many people were killed because of fear of the unknown and ignorance of the Hutu…

According to Arash Javanbakht and Linda Saab, both Assistant professors of Psychiatry at Wayne State University. They explain that fear is a defense mechanism. The brain prepares us when we sense danger, the first reaction is in the amygdala, a set of nuclei near the temporal lobe, it senses emotion, mostly anger and fear and this allows our bodies to trigger the fight or flight method. Studies from the University of Minnesota explain that fear even sharpens our sense to help survival, it improves eyesight and shuts down the digestive system, which is necessary for survival. While the brain and body attempt to help us survive, fear can still harm a human. Chronic fear can lead to physical health problems, such as the weakening of the immune system, accelerated aging, and even premature death. Fear can also lead to mental health problems, such as depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. This shows that while fear triggers the defense mechanism in your brain, it also can have negative long lasting effects on a person. All in all, while people see different forms of fear and cope in different ways, fear, while just an emotion, can affect a person so much that they have to live with its problems for the rest of their…

Positively, for a brief period of time fear brought the boys together. Initially they worked as a team to provide what they needed to survive. As their time on the island increased so did the negative impacts of fear. Negatively, fear causes you to act in ways that are opposite of societies expectations. Normally young boys would never resort to acts of violence such as sacrificing the pig, to create a feeling of security. The longer the boys were exposed to the influence of fear the more positive aspect of fear faded to the negative. So in conclusion fear can have an impact on our actions, and reactions. Whether it be positive or negative, good or…

I personally do not believe in a monotheistic God, but I do have a spiritual sense of some great benevolent “otherness”, and I do consider myself a spiritual person. In this piece I will use “God,” and “the divine” interchangeably to represent and speak about this spiritual presence. In The Witness of Religion in an Age of Fear, by Christian theologian Michael Kinnamon (2017) he advocates for a, “shared interfaith witness” (p. 47). This is a powerful and thought-provoking position he is taking. He writes that all the major religions, at their best, have the capacity to assist humanity in overcoming fear.…

In the everyday lives of children, teens, and adults, a new fear is learned. For example, a child will become afraid of what is in their attic because they watched Beetlejuice for the first time. The hallway in which the entrance to the attic is certainly cannot be dark if something is up there. The solution for this would be to buy a night light and plug it in near the attic. A teenager will be afraid of being who they really are because in order to fit in with their friends at school they have to stick to the status quo.…
