Anti-Federalists wanted more power to the states; they felt that if the Constitution was ratified power would be taken away from the people. These individuals were small farm owners who lived in rural areas. They also believed that they should be able to spend money as they saw fit. The Anti-Federalists had more people at the time, but they were diverse and uncoordinated. The Federalists wrote over 80 essays, called The Federalist Papers, stating their positions; they were also able to successfully make the Anti-Federalists understand that the constitution was flexible and would allow some aspects of The Bill of Rights in the document. Federalists claimed that their Constitution would bring more democracy to the nation. They also brought attention to the economic and commercial state, all of which was greatly damaged after the Revolutionary
