“Film of Germany before and during the Second World War”

As we all know, Second World War was underway by 1939 and ended in 1945, talking about World War II, Germany is one of the must mention nation. Hitler created a totalitarian single-party state led by the Nazis and started the war. But how did he prepare Germany before he started the war? He armed Germany, improved the economy of Germany, and created an army. Most importantly, he prepared German’s mind for the war. By what method? By propaganda. In my following essay, I will have a brief introduction on propaganda and how Germany used film as a propaganda tool before and during Second World War.

What is propaganda?

Propaganda is a form of communication, which aims at influencing the attitude of the community towards some cause or position. It only presents one side of an argument and is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media.
From Western liberals, national use of publicity makes people lose personality independence, "propaganda" meaning derogatory increasingly strong.

Propaganda in Germany before Second World War started.
Most propaganda in Germany was produced by the Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. Joseph Goebbels was placed in charge of this ministry shortly after Hitler took power in 1933. All journalists, writers, and artists were required to register with one of the Ministry's subordinate chambers for the press, fine arts, music, theatre, film, literature, or radio.
The Nazis believed in propaganda as a vital tool in achieving their goals. Adolf Hitler, Germany's Führer, was impressed by the power of Allied propaganda during World War I and believed that it had been a primary cause of the collapse of morale and revolts in the German home front and Navy in 1918. Hitler met nearly every day with Goebbels to discuss the news, and Goebbels would obtain Hitler's

Since the very beginnings of radio broadcasting, radio has been used as a highly influential political tool. This epitomised by the significant role radio played in the German media during Hitler’s rise to power and his reign over Germany. Joseph Goebbels who Hitler officially appointed Reich Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda had total control of communications media. He predicted that, "the radio [would] be to the twentieth century what the press was to the nineteenth" and that it would open new paths for Germany’s political life. (Goebbels, 1938, pp. 197-207) Hitler, and even more so Goebbels, saw the massive propaganda weapon radio could become. Effectively, Goebbels concluded that the government “couldn’t ignore the radio and it’s possibilities”, deciding it was going to be a key tool in the delivery of propaganda; Nazi Germany becoming one of the first totalitarian states to utilize radio as a propaganda tool. In Hitler’s 1932 campaign speech he points out the disappointments of all the other competing political parties and their meaningless promises. One of Hitler's primary aims in domestic policy was the total indoctrination of the German people. He believed that, by using propaganda, his regime would be able to spread the popularity of Nazism among citizens, making them more loyal to the state. To do this, Hitler appointed Dr. Joseph Goebbels as the Minister of Propaganda, giving him control over what the people could and could not see. Goebbels' expansive propaganda campaigns included the use of radio, film, newspapers, and mass rallies, all of which were used only in ways that purely support Hitler. Any anti-Nazi messages in media such as literature and journalism were prevented from reaching the public. Such censorship quickly became a vital part of Hitler's domestic policy; within a year of his rise to power, about 4,000 books were banned for being "un-German." Children, being very impressionable, were perfect candidates for indoctrination. Education was closely controlled by the state, with textbooks being rewritten in favor of Hitler's views on history and biology. Teachers were also selected carefully, and had to be approved of by Nazis. It was made necessary for boys and girls to join youth groups, such as the Hitler Youth and the League of German Maidens. These groups had further impact on German children and prepared them for their future roles as ideal Nazi men (soldiers) and women (mothers). Overall, Hitler was successful in his attempts at indoctrination.…

Hitler did not display propaganda in his first speeches as Chancellor. I think his goal at first was to win over the peoples trust. Once he had done this and became President he started to manipulate the German people with Nazi propaganda. The Nazi parties plan for propaganda included the criticism of any people, religion, or organization that was against the Nazi party. They demonized the enemies of the Nazi party and promoted Nazi ideology. One area I thought was most important was the anti-Semitic propaganda that Hitler and the Nazi party displayed. He had a strong hatred for the Jews and wanted the people of Germany to as well. This allowed him to build his concentration camps while keeping the people at a distance. Through this propaganda the Jews where blamed for the economic and moral problems of Germany. They were referred to as money grubbing Jews.…
