Have you noticed that in society today, people being mindful of their fitness and diet seems to be non existance. With the technology field booming and junk food being soo easily accessible, our society has now been plunged into a new type of life where we have obese kids glued to their tablets and laptops with not even the thought of getting up to kick a ball. My brother seems to be the perfect example of how fitness and diet doesn’t play a major role in his life. Lounging around on the couch and texting for hours whilst sipping on a double caffeine MountainDew is a daily routine with my brother but not just him,but most of us. It isn’t long before us South Africans end up with an obese population rate like America and it also isn’t too late for us to make changes in our life, so why not make a change in your life?
Good morning to my teacher and fellow pupils. My topic for today is on “Fitness and Diet”. Why is being fit and having a healthy nutritious diet so important? Firstly,Life is much more delightful when you’re in shape , you look and feel great. Many common health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure are the result of people leading an unhealthy lifestyle .Physical fitness and consuming the correct nourishment daily can overcome this. Secondly, Have you noticed people who complain that they don’t have any energy? These are people who fail to realize that exercising gives you energy! Exercising daily increases your strength and stamina and allows you to cope better with your daily activities such as climbing a flight of stairs or carrying a heavy parcel. Keeping fit also keeps that excess fat off your body. If you are just dieting you’ll be losing some muscle with your fat and your metabolism will also seem to slow down but if you’re working out whilst dieting this can be better for you because you’ll be able to keep your muscle and at the same time you’ll be getting rid of your fat. Don’t just stop working out once

    At 6 '0" and approximately 210 lbs with a BMI (body mass index) of 28 I am considered overweight and very close to being obese according to the website weight-loss.emedtv.com. I am positive that my current and very poor fitness and nutritional habits are the main cause of my depleting health status as well as my current overweight status. Asking me to explain my current fitness and nutritional habits is basically superfluous. My current fitness habit includes nothing more than the occasional golf or bowling outing, and it does not happen more than once every 2-3 months. My current nutritional habits are just as bad if not worse. Typically I only eat once or twice a day and normally they are very large portions of generally unhealthy foods. For example this past Thursday I managed to eat two medium pizzas from Pizza Hut in one sitting and on Saturday I ate two foot long sandwiches from Subway within about 40 minutes. My fitness and nutritional habits have been the same for years and I know that they are the reason that I am so close to being considered obese. There are a number of health risks associated with obesity. According to WebMD.com "Obesity is not just a cosmetic problem, it 's a health hazard. Someone who is 40% overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as is an average-weight person. This is because obesity has been linked to several serious medical conditions". Some of the health risks that are associated with obesity include: Heart disease and stroke, High blood pressure, Diabetes, Cancer, Gallbladder disease and gallstones, Osteoarthritis, and Breathing problems, such as asthma.     Throughout the course of the last nine weeks, my eyes have been opened to an entirely new world full of nutritional and exercising information. It is rough being a thirty-three year old husband and father, with an eye on trying to remain on this planet for as long as humanly possible. As parents, we all have goals we want to achieve. The usual suspects include seeing your children graduate high school and then college, walking your daughter down the aisle of her wedding, and being able to retire and continue to live a healthy and happy life. What I have come to realize through this nutritional and exercising information is that in order to accomplish this goal, there are certain aspects of my life that I need to change. I am not a particularly healthy eater. I do not exercise regularly. I mostly do what I can with the time I have available. Motluk claims that “In 1992 about 13 percent of Americans were clinically obese...ten years later that figure skyrocketed to 22 percent...” (562). Many other countries such as the UK, Australia, and many other Western countries are following the United States lead in the obese epidemic, which is seen as one of the developed world 's biggest public-health problems.     According to various sources the United States is considered to be the “fattest” country in the world. Such a statistic is hard to believe. As citizens of the United States, we pride ourselves on living in the greatest country in the world. Ironically it is also the unhealthiest.     For many years there has been a debate between which is better for weight control and all around health and fitness, Cardiorespiratory Exercise or Weight Training. Many people tend to focus only on one aspect of the physical wellness. For example women, like myself may focus more on cardiorespiratory and flexibility training more so than Weight training. This is out of fear of injury, or the muscles becoming too bulky. Women tend to want to burn more calories, therefore they focus on exercises’ such as aerobics, walking, swimming, and jogging. Research shows that working out with weights has health benefits beyond simply bulking up one's muscles and strengthening bones. Studies are finding that more lean muscle mass may allow kidney dialysis patients to live longer, give older people better cognitive function, reduce depression, boost good cholesterol, lessen the swelling and discomfort of lymphedema after breast cancer and help lower the risk of diabetes. Although Weight training has its benefits for variety of reasons; it also has its downside. Weight training promotes short term stiffness of the blood vessels, which could promote High Blood Pressure over time and increase the load on the heart. This would not be good for someone who has a history of Hypertension. A variety of studies have shown that the best way to offset the cardiovascular stress caused by strength training is to combine cardiorespiratory endurance exercise such as a brisk walk, bicycling, or elliptical machine, immediately after a weight training exercise. Regular aerobic exercise causes your lungs to process more oxygen with less effort; your heart to pump more blood with fewer beats; and the blood supply directed to your muscles to increase. As a result, by performing cardiovascular exercises, you are increasing your body's endurance and efficiency.…
