Where would you use tessellation shapes at that was the question I had running though my head when I was doing this and I thought about Classrooms they have different shapes on rugs the wall. Even quilting shops use tessellation shape to help them quilt things together.…
Getting a good grade in geometry is very important, yet very hard to do if you cannot properly construct geometrical figures. Using a compass, a tool used to make arcs, and a straightedge; like a ruler, used to draw straight lines; helps students to properly construct figures. It is better to use a compass and straightedge to construct figures, than a drawing program online.…
Another way geometry is incorporated in golf is the golf swing. It is the most important way, and every golfer must use geometry in his/her swing. Perhaps the most important part of the swing is the pre-shot stance. It is important to bend from a strong angle…

If my neighbor asked me what I learned in this math course, I would tell her "probably the same thing your kids are learning in school." As our generations progress, so does the advancement of the math that is taught to our kids in school. What I mean is, what may be considered a college level math course today, could easily become something that is taught in middle school in the future. Honestly, this course has a lot of elements that are reminiscent of grade school level math. However, those foundations are brought…
Architecture begins with geometry. Since earliest times, architects have relied on mathematical principles. From the pyramids in Egypt to the new World Trade Center tower in New York City, great architecture uses the same essential building blocks as your body and all living things.…
It was interesting for me to see in action how Geometry, or math in general, is not subjective. It is the same no matter who is doing it or why they do it like that. The result is always the same.…
We also covered using visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric modeling to solve problems. Week two we also did an individual assignment to help us understand geometry. Week three we covered the application of geometry using chapters 10 and 11. We analyze geometric definitions and relationships including congruency, triangle properties and triangle inequalities. Circles and arcs are another concept studied as well as proportions between parallel lines and congruent segments. This helped me to study similarity and proportions between polygons and triangle. At the end of week three I was able to specify locations using coordinate geometry, describe spatial relationships using coordinate geometry and use symmetry to analyze mathematical situations. In week four we covered Identify the relevant attributes of objects when solving problems as well as applying appropriate techniques, tools, and formulas to determine measurements. In week five we synthesize the mathematics concepts addressed in this course. As a team we worked on a power point dealing with a three dimensional shape and we discussed the surface, faces, sides, volume as well as…
18). In her book, The Smartest Kids in the World, Amanda Ripley (2013), describes a scene in which a student from the American school system is placed into a Geometry class in Korea (p.75). He note that something was "very different" about how this math lesson was taught, which was ultimately due to the integration of trigonometry and calculus into the geometry lesson (Ripley, 2013, p.75 and 76). Ripley (2013) finally notes that "together, the different disciplines could solve the problems in the real world" (p.76). Ultimately Ripley's example highlights the integration of multiple disciplines into one lesson, and how that lesson both deepens the understanding of the particular subject, in this case math as a whole, and helps develop real world applicability, all while keeping the students "enjoyed" (Ripley, 2013,…
From the Roman arches to the triangular Great pyramids to religious domes and the variety of quadrilaterals found on steel-frame buildings of the 20th century, architecture is largely predicated on shapes. The mathematical attributes of shapes are necessary to the design of any standing structure.…
Algebraic expression is such as square roots and Pythagorean Theorem scare people when they see them. These are something they do not see the need for. In any kind of job that deals with triangles; for example, it is needful for carpenters, engineers, architects, construction workers, those who measure and mark land, artists, and designers to know the square root. They need to understand the concept of square root in order to understand other math concepts. Studying math is like building a block wall or a building: you need the blocks on the lower part so you can build on them, and if you leave holes in your building, you can 't build on the hole. Surveyors, cartographers, and assessors are probably the most obvious in its need for the tools to determine length and distance. They measure and map properties, set legitimate boundaries for home owners, businesses and the government.…
It involved a lot of consideration with the principles of Pythagoras. Ever since then, I came to appreciate the importance of its relationship with regards other subject areas and its corresponding practical applications. I felt comfortable when Algebra was the focus of attention in class. I felt that I was able to absorb the lessons quite well and more easily than my class mates. I took this opportunity to help others who had problems with home works and assignments. I must admit that I may not know much more that what my classmates knew, but I had the proficiency to communicate what has to be done and at the same time get the desired results. These experiences made me more adept and a lover of mathematics in theory and practical…
In the aftermath of the previous year’s I realized that if I put my mind and effort in something I can do it. Math was a subject that I thought was going to always bring me down. But since my love for sports is greater I knew I had work I had to do, and now I actually love math. When given the chance I watch math video on YouTube. I have a favorite YouTuber names Vsause. His videos contain a mixture of science, math, and physiology. One particular video that is my favorite is when he is describing how humans have sent out many messages out in space that gives out a descriptions of who and what we are and things that are popular in our society at the time; as well as the coordinates to our location. It’s so interesting how math has a major part in life and in everything we do. When in geometry class I thought to myself “How is this going to help me in the future?” But later on, when reading the history of math, geometry is actually useful. We use if for many things like architectural designing, and in computer…
Rashin-Coatie is a story about a gentleman and his two daughters in Scotland. One daughter is ugly, mean, and older and the other is very good looking, younger, and very nice. The parents hate the young good looking daughter, and love the ugly ill-natured daughter. The parents mistreat their young daughter making her do all of the hard work and give her very little food and water. The daughter has a calf that helps her get away from her parents and her bad sister. The parents try to kill the calf, instead the girl and the calf escape running to a meadow where she gets rashes from poison oak. She is now named Rashin-Coatie. The calf and the young daughter travel to the king’s house where they ask the king if he needs a servant. The mistress hires the young daughter as a kitchen servant. Everyone liked her. The calf gave her a dress and glass slippers to wear at the dinner and she impressed everyone, the prince fell in love with her. She left without meeting him, and lost one of her slippers. He looked all over for the girl who lost this slipper, having every woman in the town try on this slipper. The prince made a promise to marry the one who fit the shoe. The ugly daughter cut her foot to make the slipper fit and so the prince was tricked. He knew it was not the girl he was looking for, but he made a promise so he had to honor it. The prince was very angry. He was going to marry the ugly daughter, until a little bird flew in and told him to look in his kitchen. The prince did so and found the young daughter, Rashin Coatie, and they were married at once.…
My initial reaction to the article by Mr. Cohen was that he was wrong to have written such a discouraging article to an impressionable young girl. I feel that math is important in everyday life. I do agree with Mr. Cohen in the sense that there are many aspects of Algebra that the majority of people do not use on a daily basis. I think that this fact is what leads people to the false conclusion that Algebra is useless.…
