I have been an active participant of my school band program since my fifth-grade year. Since that time, I have participated in three middle school honor bands and have earned two 2 ratings at district high school solo contest. However, my passion has always been for flying whether that be flight simulators or building remote controlled

Increasing angle of attack on any airfoil causes the area of the streamtube above the wing to decrease. This produces a greater velocity increase above the wing than below the wing. The greater velocity increases the pressure differential on a cambered airfoil. The greater pressure differential on…

I believe that I can accomplish any obstacle that stands in my way and I’m not going to let anything stop me. There have been numerous times this year and last year where I have been the leader and I have stepped up for “The Band” and “My Section” because of the love I have for it. For example: All the trombone “fanfares” and movements have been my ideas and I have collaborated my ideas with the other members of my section which have led to success during the football games. Another example is when the band was entered into the martin Luther king parade (2010) and Mr. Green needed people to stay after and develop a dance routine for the band with alumni and others. I was one of the volunteers to stay and help out which was a great idea because I was able to bond with the alumni and other older college students to get their advice and opinions for not only the dance routine but for my life. Another example is when the band was invited to perform for the faith world fundraiser (2010) and Mr. Green needed a student to be a “Fill-in” drum major for that day. I stayed after to volunteer and I was chosen and after that day I worked my butt off to help Corrine and assist her with the dancing for the performance which was a success for us and the band. Last year was my first year of…

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve observed people playing music around me. My family is musically inclined, which I believe is the reason I’ve been drawn to it. In 2006, I began taking guitar lessons but I never had much interest in playing. Things changed in 2009, and I wished to be different. I wanted to be good at something so I began to teach myself guitar and have stuck with the guitar until now. In 2010, I began to play on my church’s worship team and I enjoyed it very much. I have now been a worship leader for the past four years and it’s something I love to do. I love it so much that for the past two years I have gone to Camp Electric to improve my skills. Camp Electric is a rock and roll music camp where musicians pick an instrument and they participate in workshops with that instrument. This camp is filled with people who love music and who love playing music. I have such a passion for playing that I have begun teaching guitar lessons and now I am expressing music with my patients in order to achieve a goal.…

I had joined my church youth choir and loved every moment of it. Then, once middle school came I decided I wanted to continue my music education by joining the band playing the trombone. The next year I decided to try out for the middle school field hockey team and made it. I continued with band and field hockey until my freshman year of high school when I had the intentions of quitting field hockey in order to pursue marching band because no one had ever done both before. I soon came to my senses and decided that not only was I going to continue with both band and field hockey, but I was also going to be the first person to successfully do that. On top of this, I decided I would audition for the school musical and jazz ensemble which would also overlap with the end of the marching band and field hockey seasons. Through much communication with my coaches and band directors, and musical directors I was able to accomplish this for all four years of my high school career and I wouldn't have had it any other…

In Smash Mouth’s “All Starts,” a loser recalls others doubting his competence and intelligence. Then, he talks about a sequence of random descriptions of his life; being annoyed with rules, starting something new with enthusiasm, having a hedonistic philosophy. These presumably occurred in the persona’s adolescence as he sounds immature compared to when he later encourages listeners with confidence. For example, he advises to take the “back streets” since we’ll never know that we’ll be successful if we didn’t try it. There are many vague moments in the song that are unclear whether he’s talking in first, second, third person; regardless, I believe it paints a clear picture.…

I started this crazy journey in the sixth grade. I could even argue that it truly started when I was even younger. I entered this world unknowing of what the future held that one day they asked us what we wanted us to do in middle school. As a fifth grader I already knew. My older brother entered band only a year before and me being unconfident in my skills as a singer and bored by the alternative of the sitting in a standard classroom learning about how to be a leader through a teacher I naturally selected band as my elective. Entering…

Immediately wanting to join the band, I knew the only obstacle in my way would be convincing my parents. After all, neither one of them is musical in any way. At dinner that night, it was obvious that they were skeptical and not too keen on the idea of hearing the banging of a drum set in their home, but they ultimately gave me the chance to pursue this new-found passion. At that time, none of us could have imagined the impact that this decision would have on my life moving forward.…

In addition to playing in my high school's marching band, I played in concert band until I left for C-Tec. I wanted to continue on playing clarinet during the winter months in a group ensemble. I actually found that I enjoy playing in concert band, much more than marching band because of the greater opportunity for advancement. Through the process of auditioning, I have improved my range in addition to improving my technical musical ability. Through participating in concert band I discovered that I greatly enjoy playing classical style music in addition to movie music themes. Due to my past experiences in concert band I have decided to continue playing in a concert style band once I attend…

Singing in the choir, learning from the drummers and organ players I fell in love with the different grooves and sounds of different instruments. I joined percussion in junior high and with countless hours of practice and lots of tough love from Mr. Jones, my percussion instructor, I learned and practiced with about 20 instruments. The switch between instruments was almost like second nature earning me first chair in a class of about 40. Once in high school I began looking for a way to turn doing what I love into a career and my interest in music producing and engineering grew into a burning passion. Working with different artists and learning how to produce, mix and master vocals with various softwares, using different midi controllers, plugins etc has taught me many different ways to find sounds i like and turn them into art. Receiving recognition that thousands of human beings have taken the time out of their day to listen the art that you created is the best feelings in the world. Giving people something to relate to by painting a lyrical picture from a blank canvas is immortal. Henceforth after hours of online research I decided to try and take my skills and elevate them to a level where they are needed in society as a vital piece of the vastly growing music…

Looking back at my high school career, the connections that I have made with peers through marching band prove to be unparamounted. Continuing to participate in marching band at Michigan would allow me to make new friends and connections with people far more diverse than the student body at my school, thus exposing me to new ideas. The time commitment is grand, but this activity has and will continue to advance my skills as a musician, a leader, and make me a more well-rounded person. After four years of dedication, I am interested in pursuing my favorite fall activity at the college level.…

I decided to continue in the band at Watkins Middle school. The first instrument I attempted was the clarinet and trumpet. Although I enjoyed the clarinet, the trumpet would be my first musical love. Not only did the discovery of instruments drive me to stay with music, but our directors did too. Adam Lynskey changed my life. Lynskey was driven and passionate about the music all of his students played for anyone. This was his main driving force even when he was teaching his students were preparing for a contest in may or the middle of September. With this marching band came rather quickly. Yes, the years of Lynskey I had…
