The air that you breathe, the water you drink, the food you eat, the products that keep you warm, safe, informed, and entertained — all can come from or be transported by the ocean. The older Florine got, the more inquisitive she became. She wanted to learn everything and anything in relation to the ocean, as she was always found near the water or swimming by herself in the ocean. Without a fear of sharks or any old squid swallowing her up as a whole, she confidently swam through the water despite her father’s dismay. He tried to get her interested in anything else, worrying for the safety of his daughter. He wasn’t sure if her glands were equipped to handle a high density of NaCL in the water, but he was flabbergasted when she came out perfectly fine without a trace of difficulty breathing. Ridiculed beyond belief with horrendous names like the mistake or freak accident from her own kind, Florine concealed in the shadowed sanctuary that was labeled to be her bedroom. The only form of company was when she was by herself, as she was often found conversing quietly and buried deep within a page-turning novel or researching on the world wide web about the oceanic beings. In the suburbs, she had a collective few friends; mainly those who could tolerate her eccentric rants and weird personality. From a very young age, she loved to read, and talking especially. Flo was never shy, rather reticent instead. She like regurgitating all the information her brain could consume. She especially liked Greek Mythology and Space Fiction. She was allured by the prospect of a universe, otherworldly life outside the atmosphere she had so closely referred to as home. As she grew older, her infatuation with the aforementioned topics only grew; but as her brain explored new things, she became enamoured with other cultures, especially that of her alleged origins: France. She has a knack for baking as well thanks to all the sweets she had heard about and attempted to try to replicate. She’s certainly strange, but despite her disposition, she likes being surrounded by people not so much for the attention but for the opportunity to express her opinions about how captivity is essentially killing the animals and rant on about how little the government is spending to ocean conservation- topics other people don’t care or care too little
