Four Year Old Child Observation
I believe the boy I have observed, who I assume his name is Alex, is on track and backing up Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development: Preoperational Stage. The stage is within the age ranges of 2-7, so of course I would have targeted behaviors of the child playing by himself surrounded by his peers, interrupting another classmate or teacher, or acting as if inanimate objects have come to life. Frequency recording was still one of the recordings I found difficult and using the CDL for the first time didn’t make things happen seamlessly.
For example, I originally was observing another boy, but his mother happened to come pick him up about 10 minutes into my observation. Luckily I happened to notice Alex because of the behaviors and actions he exhibited. The frequency recording was also difficult to mark because there would be minutes passing by where he didn’t show another form centration, egocentrism, parallel play,

Observation Context: Child Development Lab, classroom 2: Morning; Stations
Observation Plan: Observe the child closely to see if the child has developed significant behaviors marking the milestone of a four-year old child. Paying close attention whether the behaviors the child exhibits are connected to any theories learned in class such as Pavlov, Bowlby, Erikson, Piaget, Freud, etc.
Description of Physical and Social Setting: The observation is taking place in a classroom where there are tables set up with different hands on activities are laid out for children to play with and pass time. The result of play time in stations was children interacting with one another loudly, where you can hear the occasional questions and conversations of the children. There were four tables and the children played at the stations for about 25-30 minutes. The setting after is the carpet where the children gathered around the teacher singing songs and listening to her read a book while lunch was set up for them.

    The child W was able to effectively back up the toy car he was driving after becoming stuck. He performed this task multiple times. He also frequently engaged in make-believe play with the other children, such as driving a racecar and motorcycle, sailing in a boat, and cooking in a toy kitchen.     Watching children at play has always been quite a fascinating experience for me.     I observed a 5-year-old male named Aiden in his home. Aiden is my brother’s son, with his girlfriend of almost 6-years. I chose to do a naturalistic observation, watching him interact with his older sister who is 6-years old. Aiden is of average height and weight for a boy his age (world, 2008).
