Child Observation
CHAbstract:
I observed a 5-year-old male named Aiden in his home. Aiden is my brother’s son, with his girlfriend of almost 6-years. I chose to do a naturalistic observation, watching him interact with his older sister who is 6-years old. Aiden is of average height and weight for a boy his age (world, 2008). He receives good grades in school and is a well-behaved child. Aiden currently lives with his mother, father, and 6 –year-old sister. The house they live in is a three-bedroom, with a large backyard. Each child has their own bedroom and get to express themselves daily. The mother is a LVN nurse at a local hospital and has to work all the time, sometimes over night. My brother is a stay at home dad that takes care of getting the children fed and to bed on time and up and ready for school in the morning and whenever they are home makes sure they do their homework and gets washed up for dinner. Aiden enjoys playing video games and playing with action figures, as well as playing with his sister.
Observation of an Adolescent
Upon arrival I noticed a few things, even just pulling into their driveway and their neighborhood wasn’t in the best condition, but was safe and seems to fit into their life style. Before I could get out of my car I noticed Aiden and his sister playing in the front yard, with my brother watching them. They paused their game to come and greet me with a hug and a kiss. Our family is very close therefore they are always excited when their favorite aunt comes over. I began by asking how school was and he replied with a simple “great!” Aiden has always enjoyed school, but now he says its more fun when he doesn’t have to dress like the other kids. Aiden recently transferred to a public school from a private school, due to the school shutting down. He says it’s a lot more fun getting to wear what he wants. His favorite shirts are his marvel shirts. I then asked him what game he was playing with his sister and they were playing soccer. I asked him

I observed Harper, a 23 month old little girl that is full of energy. Also participating in the interaction with Harper was her mother and five year old sister, Mya. Harper is very friendly and outgoing. She is very interested “reading books” and loves to be read to. She enjoys helping her mother clean and do simple tasks. She seems to be very confident with and without her mother in her sight. Harper’s father is not actively involved in her life because he lives in another state.…

I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Trying her best to calm her down, since the child was throwing around her body while the…

Sky Barragan, daughter of a good friend of mine is the child I observed for this written evaluation. Sky is four years old with a birthday quickly approaching this upcoming July. The observation took place at a local park in Pasadena that Sky frequents quite regularly for play time. We arrived at the park at approximately nine fifty in the morning and left the park at ten thirty. The park is about five acres and located in a quiet neighborhood of Pasadena, CA. It has a playground, basketball courts, handball courts, and plenty of open grass and trees which make for a calm and peaceful setting. The park was fairly empty with a few adults engaging in morning fitness activities, and the playground was empty. The temperature outside was about ninety…

The observed child is given a pseudonym in order to remain anonymous. She will be addressed as Lizzy in this paper. Lizzy is a 9 years old child who is part of a typical, traditional middle-class family I visited her while she was conversing with her best friend. She has no prior knowledge of me. Some degree of deception is involved in this observation as I lied about what I will observe; I said I will observe her house, not her actions. The deception was a critical effort to keep the results accurate. I feared she will act differently if she knew I was observing her. Afterall, all deception was undone after the observation, and I asked for her asent again. I informed Lizzy’s parents prior to the observation without any deception, and they provided parental consents. Lizzy was the only person deceived during the observation, and Lizzy’s friend and cousin were unaware of my observation. They were not informed since they were not being observed. Moreover, the observation highlights two domains of development: physical and social.…

For this case study, I decided to observe my boyfriends’ six-year-old brother named Yair Ramirez. He has a light skin tone and brown thin and choppy hair. His eyes are brown, and he recently lost four teeth. Yair lives in a two-story town home with two bedrooms along with his two siblings and both parents, Blanca Singu and Carlos Ramirez. His mother described their home as “simple but fun. He has a lot of toys to entertain himself with.” At school, his mother says it is very interactive and he learns a lot from the activities held. The reason I chose to write my case study based on Yair is because I see him about once a week, and I have a close relationship with the family overall.…

In an evening spent at a local park, I observed two toddlers playing on the playground. Both toddlers were about the same size and height, and they were seemingly about two years of age. These two children stood out to me because though they seemed about the same age, their behavior on the playground was very different. As I observed, both subtle and large differences began to make themselves apparent.…

This observation took place on Saturday October 17th at Town Center Corte Madera at approximately 2:00pm. The day was bright and sunny and the Mall was full of all kinds of parents and children. I choose a male child approximately 3 years old, wearing blue top and black pants with sponge bob square pants sneakers. The mother was wearing a yoga outfit as most mothers in Marin seem to wear these days. She was in her mid-thirties. Dad was also present, he wore a short sleeved Hawaiian print shirt with Khaki shorts and flip flops, and he too seemed to be in his mid-thirties. I was sitting at the table near the elephant fountain facing the fountain with my back to the store so know…
