Defra consistently reports that 95% of these deaths are due poor husbandry and that only 5% are due to a combination of misadventure and predation. These statistics show that foxes do not hinder the management of wildlife and furthermore fox hunting is not used as method of pest control but rather for pleasure. This contradicts Owen Patterson; the environment secretary’s reason: he had stated "No one is keener than me to see the Hunting Act repealed because I believe in the management of wildlife.” Tim boner, the director of campaigns at the
country side alliance’s reason for supporting the ban from the article is: that it protects livestock, however this is untrue. This idea of ‘hounds controlling foxes’ interferes the natural food cycle, moreover, they deserve to have freedom from human intervention. Foxes are blamed for the farmers’ carelessness, laziness and the incapability of them being able to nurture them. How ironic!
