He attended Groton School in 1896, entered Harvard University in 1900, and studied law at Columbia University, passing the bar exam in 1907. He married his fifth cousin Eleanor Roosevelt on March 17, 1905. In 1910, Roosevelt ran as a Democrat, and won the election. He then started opposing elements of Democrats, which made people angry, while his notoriety grew. In fact, when in 1914 Roosevelt tried to run for the Senate seat in New York, he lost due to the enemies made while he ran as a Democrat.
