As mentioned earlier in Part I of this proposal, Smith Consulting has been contracted by Kudler Fine Foods to develop and implement a Frequent Shopper Program. The ultimate goal of this program is to keep current customers loyal and to illustrate to new customers ingenious ways in which Kudler intends to keep a good client-customer relationship. As a secondary measure, the Frequent Shopper Program is intended to track customer behavior and habits. Hardware Platform: Kudler has three main locations La Jolla, Del Mar and Encinitas, and with proper planning and development, it is hoped that they can expand throughout the course of the company. In the mean time and for the purposes of this project we will concentrate on these main sites. Each site will have the exact same hardware platform and Smith Consulting will upgrade this hardware during the course of this project. The hardware in place right now is a bit outdated and will only slow down Kudler Fine Foods in this fast paced technological savvy world. The hardware in place now is illustrated below in Fig. 1.

The server will be upgraded to blade servers for faster more proficient transactions. The 56K modem will also be upgraded to Broadband, preferably a T1 line or fiber with network speeds that can reach ITB/sec download speed. Additionally the current Point Of Sale System can be easily upgraded to accommodate the tracking and favorites of individual consumers with the use of an upgraded barcode system which will be implemented at the first sprint of the project. Smith will make a prototype of this at the first Sprint to present to shareholders and the board before final approval. Network Connections: Kudler Fine Foods main network is a Virtual Private Network which is up to standard for present ay business transactions. This VPN would allow for very secure communications between headquarters, other sites and site to site, all of which will be using the Frequent Shopper Program. individual. Software Development Tools The proposed software development tool that Smith consulting intends to use is SAP. The advantages of this is that it is open source, and it has various levels of system integration to include, Customer Relationship Management, ERP, Product Life Cycle Management, Supply Chain Management and Supplier Relationship management.
Database Information Currently Microsoft Access is being used for all database management purposes.
Smith consulting will be responsible for the revision and alteration of all tables and queries. Smith consulting will incorporate a program to send the bar code information when a product is scanned by a Frequent Shopper, to the appropriate table. The database will be expanded also to include all online transactions. Additionally if Kudler decides to expand, a plan will be written in the background t o go to SQL server as a more expansive and quicker way of storing and managing the database. User Interface The GUI being designed by Smith Consulting user friendly controls and a color scheme that will be appeasing to the eye. A GUI that is pleasing to the eye and easy to use will go a long way in attracting new customers and encouraging current customers to learn more about the new program. Customers will be able to enter their name and contact information in order to receive a Frequent Shopper Card conveniently through the mail or to be printed out immediately in the comfort of their own home. Controls The main control that Smith Consulting will propose to make sure the customer information is accurately maintained and the all of the customer’s information is accurately maintained, is the Frequent Shopper Program Member Card/key chain. Once the card has been issued to a member, it is used to track the buying habits of each consumer and take stock of the how much inventory is moving throughout each location. Additionally if the Frequent Shopper does his/her business online, the member will be asked to use their Frequent Shopper member number which will be associated with their card. This will be done so we can accurately track all purchases both in store and online. Security Sufficient security measures will be put in place with the implementation of the new program through the Kudler Fine Foods website. All personal information submitted to the site by prospective consumers must be protected. This data will be transferred from any store to the main headquarters via VPN in order to further protect the consumers of Kudler Fine Foods.
