Freshman Focus Reflection
Freshman Focus was definitely something that I did not get to experience during my high school career, and it has shaped me to become a more knowledgeable person, in a sense. I got the opportunity to really learn about a particular subject and craft an oral argument for individuals from the educated community. It seems to me that many of my peers who partook in doing these presentations really felt anxious about it, especially the night before. However, with that being said, many of these individuals really enjoyed the presentation after giving the presentation. I went in really expecting a strict and hostile environment. I don’t know why I felt this way, but I did. Luckily, my professor really prepared us for this presentation, and this allowed

Explaining things that people don't understand has always been a strong point in my time within the community. In sports, specifically volleyball, I am more experienced than most of the people in my grade. When someone is having trouble with a skill like hitting or passing I gladly help them and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. Another quality that I have, is the ability to effectively communicate with others. Not only am I able to communicate with people that I am helping, but also with leaders within this club. I can communicate clearly and professionally through; email, text, verbally, and on the phone. When I have a planned absence from a sport’s practice, I notify my coach at least twenty-four hours before the scheduled start time. My work ethic has always been a strong point within my years of schooling. I have never been tardy to a class or skipped class to do things that I think are more important. Working in groups or teams has always been something I am good at. Working with teams efficiently and effectively is very important, this is especially shown on sports teams, were at practice if one person is slacking off it's harder for…

In the United States we have three different branches that make up our government. The branches include: the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. Even though they are all part of the U.S. government, they all have separate powers and responsibilities. For example, the legislative branch is able to make a law, while the executive branch enforces that law. All of the branches are made up of many different people with their own rolls in the branch.…

This is the first opportunity for me to present information of any topic to my class in a while. I’m not sure if I remember the last time I presented in front of a class full of people, which made me very nervous for this presentation especially in front of people I didn’t know and had never talked to before. As the date for me to present was arriving I began to get more nervous because again I haven’t done this is a while but once I entered the class I did a good job of keeping my nerves down and simply reading the slides to the class and presenting the information of my particular dialect very well I feel like. For many people presenting such things are enjoyable and fun for them but for me I’ve never been a big fan of presenting in front of a classroom full of students and in this case a classroom full of students I don’t know.…

I have never been an extremely confident person. Although I love to express my ideas with others, I face anxiety when confronted with the prospect of public speaking or even speaking in class. I tend to focus more on my schoolwork and less on making sure I am participating in every way possible. However, my junior year was a major turning point. Just taking one different and challenging class opened my eyes and showed me that I am capable of more than I thought possible.…

I walked in on the first day of freshman year, not knowing what the school year held in store for me. I had no idea what classes and teachers were assigned to me. We went to our first period, which for me was Geometry. The bell rang and came second period. My schedule said "Public Speaking," but I did not have a clue on what that was. I began to get tense and anxious because surprises are not my thing. The teacher walked in and said, "Hi, welcome to Public Speaking. You'll be learning how to speak in front of a large group of people. We will be reading speeches and also debating against one another." My heart dropped. I started to get even more edgy. All my life before freshman year, I struggled tremendously to speak in front of a class. My…

This was the easiest speech, considering that all I had to do was rant about the story I was telling. For this speech, I didn’t feel that nervous because it was something that I remember vividly and nothing could go wrong with it. Moving on to the next speech, which was the informative speech, I felt nervousness once again. The fact that we had to research everything well and make sure the sources were cited correctly, then try memorizing what we would say for 6 minutes, and aside from that remember to do the speaker’s triangle, I got anxious. Fortunately, I did not do horrible, which is what I was expecting. Continuing to the next speech, we had our persuasive speech. This speech at first seemed easy because it was similar to the informative speech in many ways. The only difference was the time limit and the PowerPoint we had to make. For this speech I was well prepared and I felt great about it, I thought it was going to be the best speech. I had high hopes, but not everything goes as planned because as soon as my speech started and I was about to change the slide, I was unable to use the clicker. I got embarrassed and did not want to continue, but I knew I had to. I pushed along through the speech until I finished it. Although it wasn’t the best speech, I had to learn that not everything will flow the way you want things to, and instead you need to move…

Coming into your freshmen year of college can be really hard. Eating wise most of the food on campus and around campus will be unhealthy. A healthy lifestyle is putting the right food and liquids in your body, getting the proper sleep at night so your body can function, and also having a workout schedule. To keep a heathy lifestyle in college you have to stop eating fast foods and foods such as noodles, chips and a lot of junk food. I believe also having a consistent workout schedule to keep your body in shape, maybe run on the treadmill for 30-45 mins or even 250 sit ups and push-ups every night.…

Before attending community college, high school proved to be difficult in a very unexpected way. In my experience, high school failed to present any challenge. I quickly became more interested in things other than schoolwork, which was seemingly repetitive and irrelevant to my goals. Thus, at the start of my Junior year of highschool, I made a critical decision that affected me academically thereafter. Enrolling as a full-time Running Start student at Everett Community College immediately introduced me to a fast-paced learning environment that was more suitable to my goals pertaining to business. Quickly, my grades improved and I became passionate about the things I studied, in both business and nonbusiness courses. However, being a Running…

I was uneasy because of my position in the activity. I did not expect to somewhere near the higher middle tier. I turned around and did not expect that many people behind me as I felt like I would have more challenges/obstacles in my life. Also, I felt angry because a lot of the questions seemed negative and to see that many of my classmates experience those things left a pit in my stomach. I would not have wanted those people to experience all of those negative things. The gap between the first person and last person seemed very huge. During this activity, I realized I related to many of the questions, but I never recognized it as privilege. Most of the students were unaware of the privileges that had.…
