Friends or Foe
FRIEND OR FOE?
Friends! What came through your mind when you came across this word? Love? Hatred? Saint? Two-faced? Pretender? Or this word makes you grin to your ears and triggers some memories of the past. Whatever friends might mean to you, friends play a big part of an ordinary teenager’s life. Some students were asked about what friends mean to them and they all have different ideas and views in friends. Arina, 17, said “A friend is someone who is close with us and someone who we can lean on and count on when we are in a difficult situation. Sometimes our own family can also be our best friend,” .There is also another student, Ikmal, 16 , said “In my opinion, friends are people who play an important role and influences our life as well as making a huge impact in your life besides our family. They know everything about us and care about us. They got our back and will stand up for us,” However, how about our foes? Some might call them their worst nightmare, but it is common in a teenager’s life. There is a time when a teenager will experience a heartbreak or disappointment because of their friends. We all had experienced it and learn to deal with it ourselves. All the fights and quarrel during schooldays might be as a bad as a rage blooms fire in the heart or as timidly as cats and mouse quarrel. Foe, as we put it, is someone who intentionally picks a fight with us and constantly annoyed us for the fun of it. Foe is also someone who loves to take advantages from us, be it, for our fame, intelligence and money.
How does a friend look like? Is him/her a good-looking and wealthy? No! Friends are not judged by their looks and wealth. It also cannot be measured by their friends and family. It is what inside their heart that counts whether they have a pure heart or a black heart. But, how does we measure their intention of heart, we could not see through them or read it from a some kind of kindness detector. It is impossible for us to judge a friend from

If someone wants to get a point across to a wide audience they must appeal to people’s emotions, logic, or show them that they are credible. In the book The Other Wes Moore the author tries to show his readers that any decision made could change a life in a positive or negative way. Throughout his book, Wes Moore compares the lives of two boys with the same name, growing up at the same time, both in bad neighborhoods. He examines these young men and tries to show when and why their lives changed for better and worse. People cannot choose their living conditions or who their parents are, but Wes Moore shows how the decisions made today can change a person’s future for better or worse. For his audience, use of pathos is the best way for the author Wes Moore to inspire his readers to listen to his purpose of this story and make a change in their lives. To further support his book the author appeals to the audience’s ethos and logos but they are minor in comparison to his appeal to pathos.…
