Gang Violence In Freedom Writers
The message portrayed in the movie was very strong and can apply to everyone in different ways. The movie showed kids who each had their own problems in life and how they overcame their difficulties and joined together. The kids were all different races. Many of the kids had suffered from losing loved ones to gang violence. A new teacher came into the school, caught off guard by all the negativity going on. She decided that something had to be done, and she had to change the paths of these kids lives. She saw the special in all of her students and never stopped believing in them, and pushed them to believe in themselves. She gave these kids hope, when they needed it most. Everybody is their own unique person and has their own situations and …show more content…

Many of the students had lost loved ones to gang violence. Gang violence is still around, and is still a big problem for America today. It is on the rise. Many times it is involved around drugs. A gang is defined as an organized group of criminals. Gangs are typically found more in the ghetto of urban areas rather than rural. In our bigger cities, such as Chicago or Cincinnati, gangs have a big presence there. It is important for our law to clean up the streets and try to decrease the deaths and crimes produced by gangs. Anybody can get caught up in a gang, but it is typically the kids who did not have parental figures growing up. Once a person finds themselves in a gang, it is hard to break out of it, especially with a clean record. There is nothing good about being in a gang. America must make a change. I believe that schools should start giving gang violence assemblies and information on it. Kids need to be educated about it. They need to know the deep, dark truths of the reality of being in a gang. Hopefully this will make them think twice about getting involved in a gang. If there is anything we can do to stop gang violence we must do it. The sadness it brings people is unexplainable, like in the movie, seeing the hurt on those kids faces, said it

The things that impacted me about the movie are the fact that it is based on a true-life story. The filmmakers did a good job of being realistic in the fact that not everyone is going to support a mentally challenged individual all of the sudden being a part of a…

The film also portrays the stereotypes that were used against the group of Asian American friends. At a party, a couple of white varsity sports players made racist jokes against them, but that caused Daric, one of the main characters, to fight them and the Asian American group ended up beating one of the white varsity players. After that, people at the high school started treating them with more respect. Another interesting aspect about the movie was that there were no parents. I felt that this brought all of the attention towards the struggles that the high school students felt, without being repressed by the perspective of the parents. I enjoyed this film very much. I thought it was very funny and was also very accurate on portraying the stereotypes that Asian American high schoolers had to go through.…

The movie was very powerful just to learn about hate crime and how it attracted a lot of attention from media as well as public all over the world due to his tragic death. Matthew was the type of person that was very approachable and always put his family and friends first. Even though the death of Matthew Shepard was undeserved I definitely think that some good has come out of it because it made people realize how much violence and hatred there in the world and what it can turn into. This tragedy helped the nation wake up to the fact that hate and discrimination still lives in our communities, schools and families. Mr. Dennis Shepard gave speech in tribute to his son Matthew brought tears in my eyes. I was able to connect and engage to that moment. That moment touched me so much that I couldn’t stop crying.…

In addition, some kids begin to detach from school and peers, and eventually can suffer from depression. In most situations, these kids have no ambition to do well in school. They live in an environment where shootings, stabbings, and drugs are part of their everyday norm. They do not have much positive influences to help motivate them to excel in their education. After watching this video, I believe that it is an accurate statement that the American gang problem is similar to what veterans experience in war.…

In summation to this reflection upon this movie/ documentary and article we should all as teachers try to strive to help our students look at each other equally and treat them with the same respect, and by providing this lesson of no discrimination to our students. Children are the future, and hopefully not future gang members. Kids should be taught to stay out of gangs and make good choices and as a reward their future will be better. Let the children know that they were born in the best country in the world and as long as they stay out of trouble they will be helped in whatever they need, whether it's money, love, or the sense of belonging. Kids should be able to see the whole picture when it comes to gangs. Kids join gangs for different reasons. Some children join gangs because they have a dysfunctional family and they yearn for love, respect, and the feeling of belonging. Others join gangs because of their poor surroundings or to fill a void in their lives. In order…

This movie had a few educational points as far as that the students all disliked authority and were afraid of becoming like their parents. Also, there was the fact that they were all in detention, but it was on Saturday, which we do not in today’s society do anymore, at least around here. The principal had his mind set on what he thought of each individual student, regardless of what they really were because deep down they were all the same, but were afraid that when Monday came that they would end up going back to their same routines of hanging with their cliques, and not knowing each other, or at least acting that way.…

Gang violence is everywhere. It is in neighborhoods, cities, schools, and many other places. I would think a person from a gang getting killed would make them want to chill out. It actually gets them all rowed up and they will try to get payback. Honestly it’s not worth it; teenagers are losing their lives…

Gang life is brutal, harsh, and overwhelming. It is a terrible life to live but yet as we saw in the video, so many individuals choose to take that path of living. I will never understand why MS13 has grown so big, the members who join know the way the gang operates. I would never think that this life would sound appealing to anyone because it is definitely not a life you want to be stuck in forever. I feel bad for the MS13 members that may want to change their lives around but cannot because once they join, they cannot leave. Gang life is dangerous and I would do anything to help members rethink their ways and stop them from continuing the gang life. Not only is gang life dangerous for those who join gangs but it is dangerous to any innocent that is within the vicinity of the territory…

What are the most popular reasons for a gang violence? I really dislike the thought of fighting and being cruel to another person, it makes me wonder why there’s so much violence by gangs and sometimes within the same gang. To stop worldwide gang violence we should understand why it gets started in the first place. Gang violence doesn’t just affect the actual gangs, it affects their family members and the people and places around them, if we understand it first, we can come up with ideas to stop it. Gang violence isn’t just a local issue, it’s global too. My hypothesis is that one of the reasons is that gangs want to control more ground area, like more of a city or neighborhood and are willing to fight other gangs…

There are less fortunate communities and poverty stricken areas in our society that our young teens are burdened with every single day. A sense of hopelessness can easily result from being unable to purchase wanted goods and services, such as the newest cell phone, the most recent fashion trends, or that hot new video game that just came out on the market. Young people growing up in poverty may find it more difficult to meet basic physical and psychological standards, which can lead to a lack of self-esteem. One way to get cash fast is to join a gang that is involved in the drug trafficking trade or in the black-market where stealing, robbing and even killing will earn you money, as well as respect. These acts give teens a sense of belongingness and it shows them that if they are committed to the gang it can and will pay off and be a dangerous way to make money, yet an easy way to get the things that he or she…
