Gay marriage
Do you think gay marriage should be legalized? 25 states in the United States have legalized gay marriage. The first amendment of the constitution clearly states that a person’s religious views or lack thereof must be protected. Gay marriage should be allowed and recognized by each state because every individual has the right to be with the one they love. The definition of love, according to dictionary.com is as follows: “Very strong affection: an intense feeling of tender affection and compassion.” If gay people feel this way then why shouldn’t they be able to be married? One of our civil liberties is the pursuit of happiness, which homosexual people are not allowed to chase. They cannot be married to the person they love. America is the land of the free, but we are not free to marry whomever we would like. A marriage is a relationship between two people. How does gay marriage hurt society or people not involved in the marriage? The number one reason heterosexuals marry is because it’s the ultimate expression of a person’s love for one another. Throughout our history going all the way back to ancient Greece, homosexual relationships have existed. The main reason for denying marriage to gay couples is that all major religions consider homosexuality a sin. Should we make taking the Lord’s name in vain a criminal activity because Christians consider it a breaking of commandment? Marriage is a commitment that says “I love you so much that I want to live the rest of my life with you. I want to share the ups and downs, forsake all others, and be together until death do us apart.” It shouldn’t matter if the couple doesn’t fit into what society is used to. People should not feel that they have to use legal maneuvers instead of marriage. When states do not allow homosexual couples to get married, they become forced to either move to another state, or become a civil union. None of those two options are practical, since the only outcome the couple wants is to be

The point of marriage is to build a family and future with loved ones. There is no way that two men or two women can establish that by themselves. We all know that in order to have children both men and women are needed. Meaning a man cannot have his own child without the woman and a woman cannot have her own child without man. So if gay couples cannot have their own children, it will lead to an adoption and unhealthy children. If both man and woman is needed to produce a child and build a family then gay marriage is not meant to be because marriage is plain pointless if spouses cannot produce their own…

In regards to everyone’s well-being, people should be able to do whatever they choose, as long as it does not bring harm to others. Respecting personal choices of others can be harmless because it cannot exactly harm anyone outside of that relationship. As a social norm, marriage is composed of and supports several aspects of life. It seems Marriage can exist without aspects of sexual relations, friendship and companionship, love, and responsibilities. Marriage is a civil, religious and expressive aspect; it is a symbolic institution. Public debates about same sex marriage develops questions in forms of religion, which finds same sex marriages unacceptable but take this matter internally. In a civil aspect, married people get a lot of government benefits which can occur as a conflict in rights as some people may agree to fairness than those who…

Even though in the U.S. Constitution it does not specify anything about marriage whether it is homosexual or heterosexual, the constitution was designed to ensure that a federal government was established and to ensure equal rights to all citizens of the nation. In 1996 the Federal Defense of Marriage Act prevented any states from legalizing gay marriage however that was proven to be unconstitutional because it restricts the states to define marriage and prohibits gay couples the same rights and benefits as heterosexual couples. (Lavoie, 2012 Gay Marriage Law…) This all boils down to one underlying statement that many gay rights activist are battling for every day and that is that denying homosexuals the equal right to marry just as their heterosexual counterpart has the right to marry his or her significant other, is unconstitutional discrimination and that by prohibiting such an act to a certain group of people is not only in…

Marriage is legally defined as a union between a man and a women unified until death do them part. The bible describes marriage as a sacred bond between a man and a woman before God. Therefore, same sex marriage is not applicable legally nor religiously in the United States. It’s meaning remains clear the same in both legal and religious definitions. I do not agree with same sex marriage because it confuses children and it complicates government laws. I do agree that they have a right to live happy and together, but not legally married. The author Thomas B. Stoddard, “Gay Marriages: Make Them Legal” agrees to same sex marriage and belive that they have same legal rights as everyone else.…

The United States should absolutely terminate the Electoral College. Many sources of evidence support this decision. First, one should discover the time when the Electoral College came into American government and how it works. After that, one should understand why states have an issue with the Electoral College. Concerning the before mentioned comments, many will agree that the Electoral College is merely tradition and is not necessary for our modern American elections.…

Everybody should have the right to a legally recognized union with a partner of their choice. The debate over whether or not people in same sex relationship should be allowed to marry, or even enter into civil unions is no new fight. Legalizing gay marriage has brought a new trend which then providing the arguments on supporting gay marriage such as denying them is a violation of religious freedom and minority discrimination encourages people to have strong family values and constitute a good based family as well as giving up high-risk sexual lifestyles. Homosexuality is an accepted lifestyle nowadays with most evidence proving biological causation, and marriage benefits should be available to all couples.…

First of all, gay marriage should be legalized because it is unfair and unconstitutional to deny citizens this human right. President Obama said, “Every single American-gay, straight, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender-deserve to be treated equally in the eyes of the law and in the eyes of our society. It is pretty simple proposition” (Qtd. in Skiba 1). Gays and lesbians should have the right to do everything heterosexuals do without being judged. They should have the right to love, marry, and to choose whom they want as life partners. According to Andrew Sullivan, author of “Why Gay Marriage is Good for Straight America”, “Even political rights, like the right to vote, and nearly all other rights enumerated in the constitution, are secondary to the inalienable human right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence; and to this category the right to home and marriage unquestionably belongs” (2). All men are created equally. Each and every individual has the right to life,…

At a time where a procedural republic is present, gay marriage is an issue that does not satisfy the ideal of liberty as self-choosing and unencumbered. However, this concern has become one of the most controversial subjects today because it violates the first amendment, which is the right of the people to peaceably assemble. How are homosexuals supposed to assemble for their cause if they are threatened with violence? Homosexuality is the real problem in the eyes of many and anything relating to this topic is immediately cast down. Because homosexuals are a minority, their rights cannot be advocated because their lifestyle is not part of the dominant culture. The government is supposed to bracket morality issues and remain objective on topics like gay marriage, but for some reason this is not happening. Administrations are able to get away with using their religious and moral backgrounds to set certain laws in place, remaining unjust. The issue of gay marriage is not homosexuality in itself but an individual 's right to choose whom they want to marry.…

The issue of gay marriage has been a long-standing issue that has plagued our society worldwide. With the same fire as ethnic equality issues brought during the civil rights movement, gay marriage has brought similar attitudes our of current generations. Opponents of gay marriage claim that it would destroy the foundation and meaning of traditional marriage and family and that it would lead to polygamy and a growth in sexually transmitted disease. I believe that gay marriage is a right that should be afforded to all individuals, as it would help the local and state governments, change traditional family values for the better, and for the mere fact that it is a right protected and often overlooked by the constitution.…
