The “issue” of homosexuality has recently sprouted in politics and societies all over the world. The United States prides itself in the freedom of its citizens, yet gay marriage is still looked down upon and banned in many states. Why are homosexuals being denied the right of matrimony? Regardless of sexuality, two people who are in love should be able to join each other in marriage, and that marriage should be recognized and respected by government and society. In the Constitution, all citizens of the United States are promised liberty and equality, yet some citizens are not permitted to be married? Liberty is the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one 's way of life, behavior, or political views, and equality is the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities.
Homosexuals are not being given the right to matrimony, while heterosexual couples are given that capability(“Gay Marriage”). It is clear that homosexuals are being denied one of their rights, breaking the pledge of the Constitution.
In modern times, the “traditional marriage”of being between a man and woman is historically inaccurate. Marriage is redefined as society’s attitudes evolve (“Gay Marriage”).
Younger generations are expressing higher levels of acceptance for samesex marriage, which is drastically impacting the world’s view on homosexual relationships. Concurrently, older generations have become more tolerant and supportive of gay marriage (“Changing Attitudes”).

New York Times performed a study to determine how much it will add up in expenses for a homosexual couple. They concluded that a samesex couple denied marriage benefits will incur an additional $41,196 to $467,562 in expenses over their lifetime (“Gay
Marriage”). Having matrimonial benefits would greatly impact homosexual couple’s lives.
People have been fighting for the rights of gays and lesbians for decades. The gay rights movement officially began on June 28, 1969 with the Stonewall Riots in New York City.
Although our battle today is similar, gayrights activism focused on personal liberation and visibility (“Gay Marriage”). Nowadays we are pushing towards gaining access to institutions such as marriage. With every victory, homosexuals are given more opportunities.
Everyone should have the right to marry, disregarding their gender. Some believe that allowing gay marriage will alter the traditional relationship of a man and woman and further weaken a threatened institution. Others realize that society is changing, and they are welcoming the change by supporting homosexuals in their pursuit of matrimony. Many states in
