of whether or not sexual orientation is a matter of choice or not. The real question is, if this is something that an individual is born with or not. This has been up for debate for a long time because there are people that consciously decide to experiment with their sexuality. This means seeing what it is like being with their own gender. Does this mean that different moral standards apply with the people that choose to experiment and for one’s reason for same-gender sexual behavior? The people that do this make it hard for other people to understand that there is a difference between someone that is born liking the same sex of themselves and the ones that are just experimenting with the same sex. Confronting the distinctive implications may include if being “gay” is a matter of choice, then it is acceptable to discriminate against those people, if a quality is congenital, it cannot be immoral, and if a scientific theory should decide someone’s opinion of congenital nature of sexual orientation. The two first implications in turn could lead to the destruction of all right-based morality. A bigger question is would it be okay to discriminate against gay people if it were a choice?
This could be discrimination on the basis of religion. A lot of people of certain religions think that same-sex relationships are wrong and there is nothing that you can say that would change their mind. One, because that is how they were raised and two, because their religion says it’s wrong and they can’t go against their own religion. Gay people are thrown out of their own churches sometimes because they no longer accept who that person is because it is against what they all believe. Another thing that is up for debate is whether or not it is okay to discriminate those that experiment. Some straight people choose to experiment with homosexual behavior. Is it moral to discriminate against those people? It is difficult to argue that other sexual orientations are not congenital and that what people have a hard time accepting. The right to have same-sex relationships with other people has the same basis as other fundamental rights. These could be the right to associate with whomever we choose to be with, the rights to express our opinions in public and to others around us at the time, and finally, having the right to think our own thoughts. Having gay rights is inherently less harmful than many other actions that are permitted as fundamental human rights that we already have so this really shouldn’t be a big deal but unfortunately it is because people can’t stand the thought of different kinds of relationships with
people. Having a same-sex relationship with someone is an entirely moral activity. This should not be a basis for discrimination throughout the world but there will always be a problem with it to certain people. This isn’t because there is no choice in sexual orientation, but because this entire thing is a personal behavior with one’s partner that causes no harm to others around and others that have no say in anything that is decided from that person. The question of what causes some people to prefer their own gender might be an interesting and underestimated one, but it’s not a moral question and something that should be looked down upon. Another article, Is Sexual Orientation Determined at Birth on procon.org discusses the traits we are all born with (nature) and what is caused by the environment that we are raised in (nurture). This has been debated by scientists, religious leaders, elected officials, and the general public. Proponents argue that the sexual orientation of someone is determined by the natural, and immutable biological factors. These include things such as genes or hormones of a person’s body. On the opponent's side, they argue that homosexuality is a reversible action and an unfortunate lifestyle choice that is brought upon by themselves. They think that people are turned to homosexuality because of poor child-parent relationships, sexual abuse, brainwashing by pro-gay influences, and developmental causes. Some people also think that “gay” people should be denied things such as marriage, discrimination protection, and social and religious acceptance. To end, there is evidence that the sexual orientation in a person develop before a child is born. There’s also scientific evidence that the parents are not to blame for the orientation of their child. The debate between the sexual orientation of people has been something that has been discussed for many years but there is scientific evidence showing that same-sex orientation is not a choice and develops before a child is born. There are people that will never believe that this is real and people that will never accept that being gay is not a choice.
