Title

I will both the advantage and the disadvantage of learning basic education course at college.

In my opinion, there are a couple of benefits for students to take general education course. First and foremost, I think that students who do not decide their majors when they are freshmen could know a variety of knowledge, which might lead them to find their new curiosities and interests. For instance,if this system was not adapted, a person who did not know about his major well when he entered college would make mistakes, because he really would not know the course or he might misunderstand about his major. That is why learning general education would help a lot of student decide their future. Moreover, they would learn more extensive information. I think that since nowadays personnels who have the authority to recruit look for people who have many varieties of knowledge, it is important to work and to be employed in this society.

On the other hand, from my point of view, it might waste of time for many students to learn general education course, because time that they study general education course would replace time of their specific educations. For instance, being a doctor is needed a lot of time, which is more than six years. I think that it is meaningless for students who would like to be doctors to taking history classes or economy classes. They would learn the knowledge that they need much more deeply. It wastes of money, I am sure that it costs them a lot of money to become doctors. I believe that they really do not want to pay tuitions about learning arts or geology classes. It is because in order to learn medical information, they pay their money.

In conclusion, both have good and bad aspects.

There are many reasons why people go to college. College plays a role a student’s life, one of these roles are to help get students a better job that pays them a lot but that isn’t the only reason. According to Melisa McCreery “Higher education provides a number of benefits; most notably to the nation’s economic stability and job creation, civic engagement, and pulling students from low socioeconomic situation and landing them securely in middle class America.” In other words college is to help better a student’s life as well as to help them be able to contribute to society positively. College also provides many classes that can help students achieve their full potential when they are out in the world as well and making you better understand the world. According to Robert Harris these classes are liberal arts classes. Although you might argue that you don’t need these classes for many majors by them self but Harris explains to you the benefits that taking a…

Certain people will benefit from either of these degree choices. For example, people who have accumulated a considerable amount of credits will be able to consolidate them into a flexible program. This is ideal for members of the military and those who constantly travel or move often. Certain states prefer elementary school teachers with a undergraduate liberal arts major because this allows them to teach more academic areas. This is ideal for working adults who have already earned a degree and simply want to learn at their leisure without being restricted to one major or specific coursework.…

In order to know what the Harvard Report means by general education, I should start with a definition summarized from the different parts of the report. In terms of the Harvard report, I think general education is a system of higher education designed to foster in students the desire and capacity to learn, think critically, and communicate proficiently with both nature and society, and also to function as engaged citizens. It is distinguished by a flexible curriculum that allows for student choice and demands breadth and depth of study as well, and by a student-centered pedagogy that is interactive and requires students to engage directly with critical texts and activity within and outside of the classroom.…
