Geometry Uni 1 Lesson 7 Assessment
Geometry Unit 1 Lesson 7 Assessment
Column A (choose two of the following) Column B (choose one of the following)
Construct a line segment and copy it.
Construct an angle and copy it.
Construct a line segment and bisect it.
Construct an angle and bisect it.
Construct parallel lines.
Construct a perpendicular line through a point on the given line.
Construct a perpendicular line through a point not on the given line. Construct an equilateral triangle inscribed in a circle.
Construct a square inscribed in a circle.
Construct a regular hexagon inscribed in a circle. Part 2: Explanation:
Using complete sentences, explain how you created two of the three constructions from part 1.
To create a line segment and copy it, I connected points a and b to create a line segment. Then, I took my compass and placed the tips on points a and b to measure it. I placed my compass on point c and drew another line segment connecting the line to point d and so created my copied line segment. To create the hexagon inscribed in a circle, I created points n and o and drew a circle around them making the two points my radius. Then, I measured points n and o to create point p on the circle and keeping the same measurement I created point q on the circle and repeated this process until I had created points all around the circle (r, s, and t). Finally, I connected the point p to point q then, to point r and so on until I had a hexagon.
Part 3: Analysis:
Using complete sentences, answer each of the following questions:
Which method do you find easier—making constructions by hand using a compass and straightedge or constructing using technology? Why?
Making constructions by hand using a compass and straightedge is the method I find easier because when using technology, you must go clicking on every other icon to perform a task but when constructing by using hand using a compass and straightedge, you don’t need to do that since everything you need is in front of you.

A spiralateral is a sequence of line segments that form a spiral like shape. To draw one you simply choose a starting point, and draw a line the number of units that's first in your sequence. Always draw the first segment towards the top of your paper. Then make a clockwise 90 degree turn and draw a segment that is as long as the second number in your sequence. Continue to complete your sequence. Some spiralaterals end at their starting point where as others have no end, this will be further explained later in the write up.…

Surveyors often use triangulation to measure distance. Starting at a known location and elevation, surveyors measure a length to create a base line and then use a theodolite to measure an angle to an unknown pint from each side of the base line (Jains, 2012, pp. 30-48). The length of the base line and the two known angles allow a computer or person to determine the location of a third point.…

How you make these structures is much like how you make things in real life. You need tools and resources. You use the wood from trees to make tools and then you mine underground and start looking through caves for resources. As you go deeper you’ll find rarer resources which you can upgrade your tools with or make structures with. And when you have the resources you need, like Legos, you start putting them all together and start making anything your heart desires. You…

The Aztecs developed compasses, squares, plumb levels, and applied geometry for their building and measurement. Not only did they need these instruments for engineering their cities and edifices, but also for precise land measurement for taxation purposes (Landon, 1993, MA29). In contrast, the Omaha used a stake and a rawhide strap to make circles. Other North American native people, the Kwakuitl made right angles and squares with a system of cords and pegs by finding midpoints and doubling. (Landon, 1993, p.…
