Girvan Opportunities
Each day around thirty adults with learning difficulties visit the Girvan Opportunities buildings where they are supported by staff and are able to choose to participate in social, creative, recreational and educational activities while being encouraged to choose to take part in community events. The general aims of this service are to involve the service users in the planning and development of the service, to support the individuals to become part of their community and to provide varied opportunities and support according to each individuals needs. This makes sure that each individual’s dignity and privacy is respected whilst allowing them to maintain their freedom which is vital for positive care practice. They provide a high quality of care and support as they offer many ways for both the care workers and the care service users to improve the quality of care that they are supplying. These include a ‘Have Your Say’ weekly committee which is led by people using the service, a family day to promote carer participation and feedback and classes on keeping safe and healthy. This ties in with the SSSC Code of Practice which states that care workers should help service users to make complaints by taking their complaints seriously and responding to them or passing them to the appropriate person. This makes sure that there is a wide range of different ways to encourage people to take part in the quality of their support and the quality of the service on a whole therefore providing the individuals with choices and improving the quality of their care which is essential in …show more content…
They also recognise that each individual is unique and has their own preferences and needs and they also allow the individual to be in control of their own care. They provide a high quality of care and support, quality of staffing and quality of leadership and management and they successfully motivate and support their staff while encouraging choice and participation. This ties in with the SSSC Code of Practice which states that the care worker should promote the individual’s views and wishes when appropriate which is vital for positive care practice as it ensures that equal opportunities are given for service users and cares. They also provide clear guidance to their staff on the needs and preferences of the care service users and they have put in place a wide variety of methods to monitor the quality of care that they are providing such as keeping a diary of what has happened and recording significant incidents. There is also a high standard of participation with the people who use the service and their relatives are actively promoted. Furthermore the staff offer choices to those using the service and check in with them that they are happy with the choices they had

    All care workers involved with a service user must be aware of what care is needed for that person and know and understand in order to co-ordinate care efficiently. This can be done by liaising with all parties involved in providing care for the individual, eg the service users themselves this will encourage and support them to be involved in their own care, helping them maintain their skills etc. social worker, family, home care agency, meals on wheels, district nurses, GP. There is no point in a GP stating dressing needs to be changed daily and district nurses go in weekly, or the district nurses go for visit at home and the person is not there because on the day they visit they are at day care. A person may have meals on wheels every day, but then gets a place within day care for 2 days per week, meals on wheels would then need to be informed that meals will not be needed on those days, also when day care is closed for bank holidays meals on wheels would be put back in place for those days, or if home care lunch calls are normally supplied, those would be put in place, this also happens if a person does not attend day care if unwell.
