Give an outline of your own personal reasons why you think that a study of the Old Testament is useful
The Christian Bible has two sections, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is the original Hebrew Bible, the sacred scriptures of the Jewish faith, written at different times between about 1200 and 165 BC. I believe there are many reasons to study the Old Testament. The Old Testament lays the foundations for the teaching and events which occur in the New Testament. It is essential to study the Old Testament; the events, characters, laws, covenants, and promises of the Old Testament in order to completely understand the New Testament. The book of exodus contains some of the most important traditions, one being the Passover. It was in the book of exodus that it became apparent that the Passover was to be celebrated for evermore, and this Passover celebration would influence our Christian Eucharist that remains today. Jesus took this celebration and applied it to the Eucharist, when he said:

The Old Testament contains many promises that God will yet fulfil for the Jewish nation. Paying particular attention to the book of prophets in the Old Testament, I have discovered that although it was written more than 2400 years ago it is very relevant to my life today; also for all people, of all ages. It is important to remember that each prophet wrote under the inspiration of God. There are very important Christian principles in all the prophets’ writings, and events in history are for our instruction and guidance. The book of prophets gives us an awareness of Gods presence today, and they inspire us to persist with our faith especially at times when we may experience difficulty and hardship in our lives.
