GMO Essay Have you ever thought about what our foods contain in them? Some of our foods contain genetically modified organisms, also commonly known as GMOs. “Most American crops are now genetically modified and the GMO’s percentage in our food supply is growing extremely rapidly”, stated by Dr. Keith Kantor(GMO’sPros and Cons). GMOs were created in order to create a larger food supply, help countries with a low food production rate, and to assist farmers. Like all things, GMO’s also have negatives to them but overall they are beneficial to the world. One of the positive sides on GMOs is that they are planted in tolerance to a lot of features such as disease,weather, and herbicides. Food automatically becomes more appealing to customers, well at least to me it does. GMO foods are manipulated to better fit our lifestyles; this overall shows the benefit of GMO foods. In addition to resistance and tolerance, GMOs also are very impacting to countries with a low agricultural rate. The resistance and tolerance features placed in certain crops give third world countries an opportunity to farm and produce food. Countries that are underdeveloped pay to have seeds specialized to survive in certain malnourished areas. GMOs also have become attracted by farmers because of their specialization and influences on their crops. Farmers from all countries benefit greatly; their crops grow more nutritious, and last longer, which is an increase to food supply. GMOs, I believe, have more of a positive impact on agriculture than they have a negative impact but it doesn’t mean they are 100% positive. GMOs can cause some people to develop allergies that they have never experienced before. Also, very limited amount of testing has been done on GMOs which causes a problem for animals and humans.”There have been isolated incidents of …show more content…
I believe that GMOs are overall a positive feature that we humans have as an agricultural option. Yes, GMOs have bad sides but i figure that there are more positive impacts on agriculture then there are negative ones. GMOs will continue to thrive in countries today and in the future; agriculture will grow.
