Easter isn’t about Candy, Ham, Bunnies, or even family get-togethers. The heart of Easter is Christ’s sacrifice. This event is the most important part of our religion as Christians. Jesus Christ coming to Earth, living the perfect life, and then sacrificing Himself on a cross for us- for our sins.
Two questions that I pose to you tonight:
#1 What does Jesus dying on a cross- Good Friday- mean for us? Forgiveness- Freedom from sin and what we rightfully deserve for our actions. Without Christ’s perfect death, we would all be enslaved to sin. Hope- When we are free from sin, and getting what we deserve we can have eternal hope. We know that we are going to rest of time with this king of the Jews. I think that knowledge can also give us hope to weather the storms that we face here on Earth. When we are facing rough waters we can stop and look at the bigger picture- this is all only temporary compared to eternity with Him.
#2 How should we respond?
Gratitude- What If someone saved your life how would you feel? If you were drowning, you were going to die and the lifeguard jumps in and saves you. I think I would feel a. thankful, but b. like I owed my rescuer something. Christ sacrificed His life to save ours- the least we can do is life the lives that He would want us to. Through our lives- Christ came to this Earth and called us to do some very difficult things- forgive Love your enemies, care for the poor, be humble. Think of others more than yourself. Submit to authority. Those are all things we don’t typically want to do. Our sinful nature wants us to get even, hate our enemies, entertain ourselves, look out only for our own interests. Jesus call us to be different.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures”
