Good Life Song Analysis

Throughout everyone’s lives, people will find songs that remind them of special events, people, or things. High school, for me, was full of struggles and many lessons. Within the past four years I found songs that reminded me of important occurences. Some of these songs I never had expected to relate to until I sat and wrapped my head around the true meaning of its lyrics. Time, as everyone suggested, did fly by. Hardships were fought through and I overcame them with exceptional moments and people who I surrounded myself with. The words within the following songs, “Don’t Blink”, “I Got a Feeling”, and “Good Life”, all disclose important relations to my life all through the last fairly short years. “Don’t Blink”, by Kenny Chesney, is a sentimental song about how growing up goes by in a blink of an eye. Hence the title of the song, it seems like yesterday I was a freshman ready to start a brand new school. Little did I know time would fly and numerous changes would be made to my life. Overall, the song gives a sense of memorial towards
the previous days. I related to this song because it describes how “one hundred years goes by faster than you think”. Although I am not one hundred years old, time has passed quicker than I had anticipated even at such a young age. As a whole, this song had a great impact on me and has shifted my thoughts on daily events. I ultimately learned to sit back and enjoy the little things among life because of how incredibly short it is. My first encounter with this song was on Pandora, an online music application that shuffles songs that matches based on your music choices, it immediately caught my attention. I never have found interested in the genre of country, but this particular song took me by surprise. The phrases made me think carefully about how abrupt the real highschool experience came to an end. “Just like that you’re six years old and you take a nap and you wake up and you’re twenty five..”, this specific line related to waking up and I am already graduating high school. Thoughts of growing up is quite scary, but because of this song it made me realize the importance of enjoying every single day. After all, Chesney’s song related to abundant events in the passed four years of my life. Before my mom passed, her favorite song to come on the radio was “ I Got a Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas.
The song puts off a “feel good” sense and mentions making the most of their night. There were numerous times we had listened to it in the car on a trip to buy groceries or a road trip to other places. This song allowed me to think about positive memories I had with her through my freshman to sophomore year. Whenever the song comes on the radio, it helps to recollect the pleasant moments I had with her before her passing. Living life to the fullest is important and these particular song motivates me to prosper every day I am living. My mom’s passing was fairly upsetting and made a great impact upon my family throughout the end of my junior year, but this Black Eyed Peas song has brought some brighter thoughts to the surface. The lyrics are somewhat simple, but the music itself allows me to refer back to happier
moments. Although, everyday throughout my high school career was not sunshine and rainbowsーI overcame struggles within myself and other issues that came abruptly. I found that in, “Good Life” by Kehlani, multiple references are made to how you have complete control over the happiness in your life. It was apparent to me that when times were rough and I was down that I was the only one that could change my overall mood about what had went on. I found significance in this song the moment my friends were all together and listening to it. It is reassuring that life is good no matter what may be happening to you. Overall, this song by the artist Kehlani and G-Eazy has provided some light in the darkness in my life. These songs represent my high school career all together. Despite the bad news and occasions, towards the end of the year in my senior year I kept striving to better my outlook on life. Lyrics in these songs permitted me to take a step back and look differently about life as a whole. They all have different meanings and specific events it relates to that are crucial to my experiences in high school.“Don’t Blink”, “I Got a Feeling”, and “Good Life” have all allowed me to succeed in all my classes and bear favorable times.
