Graphic Designer Career Essay
There are many issues facing people who work in the graphic design industry that makes their career harder, and harder to find work as well. One issue is that at all times you have to be on top of things at all times, and know what’s trending, or what the public wants from your work. Another issue of being a graphic designer is that you’re a freelancer, in other words, you’re not really an employee, but instead a person someone hires for a single job, which means that it’s not exactly steady even though you get a steady paycheck and decent benefits. You also need to be able to design anything, you need to be able to piece together what an employer will want, and show that you are sort of a jack of all trades, and will be able to appeal to any …show more content…
The cost of living continues to increase, yet you continue to face stiff competition in pricing. Specializing can help you charge more, but you can also take advantage of passive income opportunities such as selling your designs on posters, shirts, coffee mugs, and more. Devote some time each week to a new design you can sell via online product marketplaces such as Zazzle. You should also ask your employer for a raise, he may not accept, but there will be no harm in trying or as a freelancer increases your charge. Finally the value of a graphic designer is no longer really a big asset, Supply and demand dictates that marketplace, and designers are a dime a dozen online. That’s why it’s so important for you to work to change the perception of designers – or, at least, your own design work. It’s critical to demonstrate the value of what you do to your clients’ overall goals in order to lay a foundation for long-term success. You also need lots of equipment to do any good work, which costs a lot of money, including a sketchpad, and computer. Also most people are looking for people with web and mobile experience, while your expertise may be in print

Throughout the course of my junior year, I have been challenged to be the best artist of my ability. As a graphic designer, I have learned to view things in a different light and learned to express my creativity. Although I am still learning new things everyday about how to become a better artist, I have improved tremendously in every way ranging from the thought process all the way to finalizing each project, and I think that as the days go by I will continue to do well in my high school graphic design career, but in continuing my education in this major and working in a field closely related to it. I have produced at least 5 projects that reflect my passion for graphic design including the New York World’s Fair, currency recreation, and the handmade film poster from the first semester of my junior year and from the second half up until my most recent project, a book jacket, and an organic drink package design.…

Success is in the eye of the beholder. What one individual deems successful should not be the same as the next person. Everyone is unique, has unique interests, sees the world differently. Success should directly correlate with values. Valuing energy efficient buildings and valuing the technical construction of artwork is very different. Two different values lead to two different careers, both important. Society needs engineers to build energy efficient buildings and engineers need art fanatics to decorate that building. It just so happens that the engineer who designed the building makes more money than the art consultant, that doesn’t mean the art consultant isn’t happy. How much money a person makes is not related to how happy they are. If that person is interested in STEM, finds happiness in the work, and happens to make a lot of money, that is…

Last year, I had a class where everyone had to write positive things about people on slips of paper that those people would later receive. Most of the slips I was given had words like “artistic” written on them. It’s the one thing people think of when they see me. I’m given art supplies for birthdays and Christmas, I used to be able to fill sketchbooks in just a month, and creating just now seems like something I’m supposed to be alive for, but I didn’t get serious about it until I was in middle school and didn’t want to make a career out of it until I was a freshmen in high school. Unfortunately, I’ve been going to a school that does not offer much or any art classes but on my own, I have been climbing my way to my dreams of becoming an animator, illustrator, or tattoo artist. Going to Perpich will benefit me well in this process and I’ve already taken art classes at the Art Academy, started my own webcomic, experimented with many different mediums, and have read books about improving art styles. The visual arts is essentially my passion and I will do anything to keep it that way.…

While online schooling and AP class create pathways to success in both college and careers, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs provides students with higher success in both the classroom, and the workforce. Unlike online schooling and AP classes, CTE programs allow students the opportunity to challenge themselves and provide them with, “...the academic, technical, and employability skills and knowledge to pursue...and enter a career field…”(Brand et al. 7). As soon as students begin their freshman year of high school, they are pressured into choosing a career field they are interested in. This creates numerous problems when selecting future colleges and careers, because a majority of students are not given the opportunity to receive hands-on…
