Thanks to the spreading of Greek we don't need to imagine a world without them. Greece is a civilization that achieved many great things during its time period. My topic is about the spreading of Greek culture and its effects. Greek culture affected the world through Alexander the great, ideas and literature.Alexander the great is important to the spreading of Greek culture in the world because without this man and his beliefs this would have never happened. According to the book Ancient Greece it states “{people} told Alexander that his ancestor was the hero Achilles. Throughout his life, Alexander carried with him a copy of the great poem the Iliad, which told of the deeds of Achilles [24]. ” this shows the Greek literature inspiring people because since Alexander was told he was a related to a hero he wanted to become like his relative so he read the Iliad to learn more about it and achieve greatness just like Achilles and he conquered his enemies and other countries with that book in his hand to help him on his journey because without it he would not have done the things he did. .The Greeks were the first major European civilization to create complex literature, and their works influence we write. According Christopher Muscato we literature today in many ways. One way is in the style we usually write. The literature of ancient Greece was so important that it was preserved for millennia and helped form the basis of modern European culture. This supports the claim because the authors of ancient Greece left major legacies that included styles and themes of literature, early mythologies and histories, and of course, words to describe important aspects of life. The complex literature use also help the modern world today add on to its vocabulary changing the way we spoke and wrote forever. This is important because without their literature Greek spreading would not have happened since Alexander was influenced the most by the Iliad book and we would not have many different style

One of the most interesting facets of the ancient Greek religion was the hero cult. A hero in this time was considered to be greater than a human but less than a god. The hero cult essentially united a group of unrelated people in a kin-like manner, which in turn made the bond between these individuals even stronger. The archeological evidence for the hero cult begins around the second half of the 8th century BC (Seaford, 109). On an unrelated note, the term polis in ancient Greece was defined to be the body of citizens, which is why polis is often translated to city-state. The interesting fact concerning these two is that the polis first emerged in the Archaic period, which…

"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature," (Anne Frank, 5). In times of despondency and even contentment, people look towards the gods for counsel. They set the guiding principles for human subsistence. People worship these ideal beings throughout all circumstances. They pray to give thanks for good fortune, to ask for forgiveness, to be blessed, and more often than not, to obtain security. For a bounteous measure of people, the ultimate purpose in life is to be the most preeminent person you can…

Greece’s culture is high context, which means that for the Greek culture the meaning of messages is determined by the context or the environment. Most of their communication is implicit. The members of the culture are skilled in reading non-verbal cues. Their interactions do not need explanation because of their common history. This is the reason why Greeks will interrupt what someone is saying while they try to figure out what is means. This is a common aspect of Greek communication. Greeks tend to speak quite loudly and with a lot of emotion. At times it may appear as if they are yelling and annoyed but it is most likely a normal tone of voice. The gods in Greek myths can be divided into respective categories where the first three of them are the Olympian gods, Titan gods and primeval gods. These three categories represent the three different generations of gods in ruling the cosmos. The next five categories divide the gods according to domain, namely the gods of sky, sea, earth, and underworld. In the process of Greek cultural ethnogenesis a special place is reserved for Delphi. The Delphic temple maintained a pivotal role in the emergences of Archaic and Classical Greek society, regulating the expansion of Greek communities in Mediterranean space, and subsequently, the spread of Greek cultural norms and beliefs. Delphi functioned as a node of communication in the system of Greek poleis, enabling direct and indirect flow of information in spite of the spatial and political fragmentation of the different Greek states. Due to its religious prestige, its influential oracle and prestigious Pan-Hellenic festivals, Delphi served an all-reaching role of a cultural hub, a center of nomima formulation and transmission, diffusing cult practices, social institutions and ideologies throughout the disparate parts of the Greek world.…

According to Webster’s Dictionary, myth is “a usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon.” Myths have a lot of influence on who we are as a person and how we make sense of the world. Myths originate from Ancient Greeks that used mythology as a means of describing their beliefs in religious heroes and gods. There are two sides to every story and since myths are perceived to be stories, they also have two sides a positive side and negative side. Over the course of my paper I will discuss both the positive and negatives sides of how myths teach us life lessons, how they give us hope, and how they can turn something negative…

Although a great number people in the 21st century believe that the concept of ‘tradition’ merely prevents the progression and advancement of the present world, not all traditions perpetuate ignorance. At the heart of most long-standing established practices lies an idea that at least one person did not want the rest of the world to forget. The different types of traditions range from lighthearted family parties to global competitions; the greatest of which is the historically famous Olympic Games. The Olympic Games first began in ancient Greece in the early Christian era (Benagh). Although the Games began in Greece as a formal way to pay respects…
