Group Communication Reflective Essay
Looking at the online assessment tools, the first one is the conflict management tool. This assessment placed myself in the compromising style approach. I was not surprised by this result because I have always known my approach to any conflict is to find a common ground. However, I can see how they state that no one ever is satisfied because each party has to walk away with not getting want they wanted. Although, I think that this prevents conflict from not getting resolved, and allows for open communication.
Communication is the next assessment tool completed, and scored a fifty-one. Thus, placing me in the middle category where it states that I am proficient at communicating but at times have problems communicating. This is another took that I am not surprised by the

As a vital area to my role, and the foundation in my opinion, to nursing communication more effectively is something I should do now rather than later. On a daily basis I am communicating with other registered nurses, personal care assistants, administration staff, physicians, therapist, families and most importantly patients. Hiding and trying not to communicate with these individuals not only hinders me in providing care, but it prevents me from fulfilling the basic need of nursing. Today I can communicate effectively one-on-one with individuals, although there are times I need to repeat what I need to say. When it comes to group communication today, that is something that still makes my heart race, my face turns red, and my breathing labored. Unfortunately, I do get this way in huddle before a shift. I understand how important it is to not be this way, and that the huddles are important to teamwork communication. I hope by the end of the semester my communication has improved, and that I experience a decrease in anxiety symptoms when communicating with

Health communication is a multidimensional process and includes aspects from both the sender and the receiver of the message. Communication skills did not appear on the average nursing school curriculum. Much has changed in the last decades; communication skills have become an integral part of training. At the same time, the patient has become more challenging, it is the age of customer service and patient satisfaction. In response to these changes, health care providers, including nurses have needed to change their approach to patients (Torgan, Ph.D., 2013).…

The communication process is complete only when the message sender and the message receiver understands the message. After the first class of interpersonal communications, that is, the course being a pre-requisite for Nursing courses, I realized that expressing my points of views in an effective way enhances the conversation. While having a group discussion in the classroom, I choose to be silent because of my shyness. Even though I know what to say I cannot express it in my words. I start mumbling and sometimes pronounced words incorrectly. I need to work on these skills things so that I will not won…

Introduction In this report, I will be evaluating the Communication and Values which I used during my two day placement. For my placement, I worked with individuals with specific needs in a PMLD unit (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties)-although I mainly came across service users with Cerebral Palsy. The service user’s ages ranged from eighteen to late twenties although I was informed by a carer at the unit that the services users’ mental capabilities ranged from 1-9 years old.…

During the summer I worked at a nursing home to gain some experience in the healthfield. Working as a certified nursing assistant really helped me grow and it is one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve had, it also was very challenging at times. As I said before I struggle with anxiety, but working as a nursing assistant pushed me to overcome some of the fears I had of communicating. I learned really quick when working in a nursing home you strongly need the ability to have good communication skills because without it you can’t communicate with the charge nurses, the residents or the other C.N.A’s. Everyday that I worked there I used different forms of communications such as body language which I learned says a lot about what a person is feeling.…

According to Douglass, “Leadership and management are achieved through effective communication.” (1992, p. 151). Communication is key in the field of nursing, without proper delivery, reception, and interpretation of the message, patient’s safety is at risk. According to Gardezi et al. (2009) “inadequate communication is a primary cause of medical errors” (p. 1391). Though nursing schools encourage and support the importance of good communication, there isn’t a formal class or training specifically addressing this topic. As a result, each nurse must seek out this knowledge and independently master these proficiencies. Good communication skills are not only essential while offering the best quality of care to the patient, but are crucial in…

Individual communication is one-on-one interaction with another. Individual communication allows for continuous feedback based on each person’s input. The communication that takes place between two individuals is very specific to each other’s responses. Since the flow of communication is continuous, individuals have a better understanding of each others thoughts and opinions and can respond directly back to each other. In contrast, group communication is contact between more than two people in a group. Group communication is more than one person communicating to a group; it is many people interacting together.…
