Guinevere Movie Analysis

I thought the film left out many different aspects of the book. They left out the friendship between Edythe and Guinevere. They also took out the emphasis on the makeover done on Guinevere. In the book Guinevere’s appearance played a huge roll in how confident she was, but in the movie they failed to emphasize this aspect of the book. There was a slight mood switch between the book and the movie when the producers decided to throw in the World War II twist. The cast of the movie becomes very serious and a little frightened whenever the planes are seen. They also threw in a feud between Edythe and Guinevere. In the movie Edythe sees Guinevere at the soup kitchen while making out with a man different from her husband. The two now have
something against each other. To put another spin on this issue Joe is Edythe’s fiancé in the movie and that is who Guinevere ends up with at the end of the movie. I liked film adaption, I thought the feud between Guinevere and Edythe was a good touch for the movie. It added more drama and moved the plot along. However, I think the book is just fine without the added drama. I was not fond of the movie ending. I really wish Guinevere would have gone with Delysia like she did in the book. Because it is the perfect touch to the theme of platonic love in this story. Other than the ending I liked the changes they made to the story even though it skews the tone and themes of the book. I think the changes work well for the movie because it keeps the plot dramatic.
