Do you ever wonder why the crime is so high in other countries and parts of the U.S? The main reason for a high crime rate is lack of gun ownership. The lack of guns has continuously proven to cause more crime, while more gun ownership has proven to lower crime. Although the opinion of some is that American gun laws should be more strict, the truth is that gun ownership is a constitutional right, gun laws in other countries show that the lack of guns leads to more violence, and gun statistics in the U.S. show that gun ownership is beneficial.
Although there are facts that push gun ownership, the reason Americans own guns is because it is their constitutional right. Every American has the right to own a gun. The Second Amendment …show more content…
is put in place so that gun ownership would be legal. The Second Amendment states, “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” This not only means that we as citizens get to own guns, but that right shall also not be infringed. That means that that right should not be broken. Not only is owning a gun a right, but it is also beneficial. Even though some believe that old laws do not work for a current civilization, the actuality is that the Constitution was created to last for generations unchanged. The concernment of some is the legitimacy of these laws, but these principles have always worked, and always will.
Another reason for more citizens to own guns are simple statistics in other countries.
The restriction of gun laws vary across the world. The lack of gun ownership proves a higher crime rate. Taking Cote D’Ivoire for example. The gun laws of Cote D’Ivoire are very strict. The firearms are very restricted by the government. Even though there are few guns, the crime rate is one of the highest in the world. The lack of firearms give law abiding citizens no chance for self defense. Moving on to the strict gun laws in the U.K. The gun laws in the U.K. were once loose, but in 1997 they officially banned handguns. After the ban, crime rates skyrocketed. Although these guns were banned, the criminals still had access to handguns. This meant that criminals could obtain these guns for crimes, but left the citizens defenseless. The strict gun laws not only took away guns from law abiding citizens, but worsened the gun violence rate. Now comparing those gun laws to Switzerland. The gun laws in Switzerland are very loose. Switzerland has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world, but little gun-related street crime. It is common for citizens to walk around with rifles. The reason for the low crime is due to the fact that no criminal will commit a crime if they know that citizens have weapons for self defense on them at all times. with the highest gun ownership rate. That is yet another reason why more gun ownership of citizens can help bring down a murder rate. The truth is that an armed society is a polite society. The gun laws of other countries prove that more gun laws create more violence. Even though a country might ban guns, criminals will always obtain them. That means that no law abiding citizen can defend him or herself whenever a criminal with a gun approaches them. That is just one reason why the banning of guns prove to bring more violence.
Another reason to have more guns in the U.S.
is the statistics in the past of the U.S. Although many people believe that more guns in the U.S. would create more violence, the truth is that we can learn from the past. Some of the gun statistics in the U.S. are very surprising, but also true. The nation’s percentage of people owning a Right-To-Conceal Carry license has risen from 29% to 74%. After that, the nation’s crime rate has gone down from 48% to 43%. Throughout the past years, guns have been used to protect a life 80 times more than it has been used to take one. On top of that, with one exception since 1950, every mass shooting has taken place in a gun free zone. This is because not a single citizens could legally carry a gun for protection. It would leave them completely defenseless against the attacker. The attacker also knows that not a single person is carrying a gun. This yet again proves that an armed society is a polite society. It also is another reason why more citizens should own guns. When criminals have guns, it is also good for citizens to have them. Although sometimes guns may be used to kill, it is the person that kills, and not the gun itself. The facts and statistics of America and other countries only prove that more guns are better for society and bring the crime rate
down.
The opinion of some is that American gun laws should be more strict, the truth is that gun ownership is a constitutional right, gun laws in other countries show that lack of guns leads to more violence, and that gun statistics in the U.S. show that gun ownership is beneficial. Because of the ownership of guns, citizens can protect themselves. The answer is clear: more guns, less violence, less guns, more violence.
