According to Halwani’s summary of McMurty essay “Monogamy: A Critique” there are three main points he addressed. The three points suggest that monogamy can be a bad form of marriage because of certain aspects in a marriage. His theories look at polygamy and polyamorous relationships and how they practice and complete the different issues monogamy marriages face. The difference between monogamy and polygamy relationships are as follows; Monogamy is the practice or State of being married to one person at a time. “Marriages with only two spouses lack the ability to have the security, range of power of socioeconomic units, understandings of emotional substance, a bigger variety, freedom founded on more adult providers, and up bringers.”(Halwani, 273) Also he describes that polygamous marriages tend to be stronger because there are more parties involve that are caring for the children as parents. This is why these groupings are seen to be stronger because they reinforce diverse methods of emotional, educational, material, and any other kind of support the entire family needs. It creates a larger family base where the family depends on each other and not outsiders for things. They all play their own role in how the family functions day to day. I thought the storyline was crazy. I heard about the show when it first came out, but never had an urge you watch it. My first impression of the show was these people are weird for doing this. I have traditional, yet conventional views about marriage being between two people, I do not care if they are two men or women, or a man and a woman. The show in general gave viewers a great look into something totally different that most have never seen or thought would make it on television. I did like how each woman was able to tell their individual story about how they met Kody. It was still weird how they all got along though. I was surprised by the design of the home. I had no idea the type of home that could fit all of them. I was amazed by the fact that the house was specifically built for polygamy marriage. It’s kind of cool that they have their own
