use our hands. Like hockey, the ball must stay on the ground at all times. You will pass to your teammates and score.”
3. Teacher will briefly go over the critical elements of passing trapping with hands using command style (tell/show/do). Passing:
➢ Feet shoulder width apart, knees bent, hand on the ball.
➢ Instead of slapping the ball, push it with force in the middle/top of the ball with either hand, keep arm extended/straight (like a hockey stick).
➢ Step with non-hitting foot in the direction of your pass/shot.
➢ Follow through with hitting arm facing target. Trapping:
➢ Hands and arms are extended in front of body.
➢ Feet are in front of the ball, place hands on the top of the ball to trap it.
4. Teacher will move to practice style. Students will stand up in a circle and practice passing on the ground to one another. Teacher will repeat the following cues: Knees, Arm, Pass
5. Teacher will move to game style. “There are two goals. You will be divided into two teams. You must keep the ball on the ground, pass it to your teammates, and score. You may not use your feet to kick the ball, but it is okay if the ball hits your feet. This is a non-contact game, which means you may not contact your opponents in any way. “ The game looks like this:
6. Teacher will divide the class into 2 teams and one team will get pinnies from the crate. Teacher will first begin with a trial run, and then begin the game.
7. Teacher will stop the game and blow whistle if any contact is made. Teacher will call “Contact” and the opposing team will attain possession.
8. Teacher will reiterate the rules during game. The ball must stay on the ground. You cannot pick up the ball, but you should use your hands to hit it/stop it. Pretend that your arm is a hockey stick. There are also to be no goalkeepers.
Safety:
• All shoes are tied
• Ball does not leave the ground.
• Students do not one
another.
• Students must stay within the boundaries and not running into other stations.
Closure: Teacher will circulate giving feedback and also save the last minute to provide feedback to the group. Teacher may ask any or all of the following questions:
➢ Did anyone use the critical elements of passing when playing the game? Which elements did you use? (Bend knees, extend arm down, follow through to target, contact middle/top of the ball.
➢ Will anyone stand up and show me how to pass correctly? (Demonstration)
Variations:
Enrichment: Teacher will add up to 3 balls during game play. Teacher may decide to add a number of passes that a team must get before taking a shot. Remediation: Teacher may decide to only have 1 ball in play.
