William Shakespeare once said, “What greater punishment is there than life when you’ve lost everything that made it worth living?”I have a friend who lost his father to heart disease in his teenage years, it took an immense amount of time for him to get over his loss, but this was only because of the amount of time they spent together and the amount of time they had to make bonds. When losing everything there's nothing left to live for, lose friends, lose family, and worst of all, lose love, this is evident in the mournful tragedy of star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. They find love in between two families that feel strong hate towards each other due to long past feuds, they are forbidden from being together so they are forced to take both their lives thanks to hasty decisions made by their emotions. In the novel Romeo and Juliet William Shakespeare portrays the philosophy that hate and love both lead to risky decisions that will end in Failure. This is due to the blindness of the heart controlling these overwhelming emotions. During the play Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers meet for the first time, …show more content…
and out of spite towards their parents, and past loves they dance together during act one scene five 1.5.104 “If I profane with my worthiest hand This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this. My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss” The love they feel towards each other is clearly false due to their motives to what drive their false love, being resentment towards the others they could be with. There is also evidence where the curse of blind hate engulfs Romeo and he slays Juliet's cousin that killed one of Romeo’s cousins on act three scene one, 3.1.126 Romeo discloses his new hate for Tybalt “Now, Tybalt take the “villain” back again That late thou gave’st me, for Mercutio’s soul is but a little way above our heads, staying for thine to keep him company! Either thou, or I, or both, must go with him!” Instead in this scene Romeo is blinded by his hate and rage provoked by capulet family member Tybalt. As of a result of his blind hastey fury he strikes Tybalt down, almost immediately regretting his decisions he realizes all of it could have been avoided if he stood by and cooled down.
“When presently through all thy veins shall run A cold and drowsy humor, for no pulse Shall keep his native progress, but surcease No warmth, no breath Shall testify, thou live’st” This is a scene from Act four, scene one, from, (4.1.96 to 4.1.100) uttered by Friar to Juliet. Juliet plans to fake her own death to avoid a forced wedding with someone she doesn't love. She doesn't think about all of the atrocious things that could happen if she does this but she proceeds to do it because of her blind love for Romeo which causes her to act more careless. Romeo finds out that Juliet has died so he plans to die by her side because he feels that if they die together it will be a triumph of their love to their parents. “Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on the dashing rocks thy sea-sick weary bark! Here's to my love! O true apothec’ry Thy drugs are quick Thus with a kiss I die.”(Act five scene three, from 5.3.114 to 5.3.120) The reader is forced to watch as one of the most iconic moments in dramatic irony history occur. Truly showing the ignorance in Romeo and Juliet's hasty relationship.

This is due to the blindness of the heart controlling these overwhelming emotions. Just like my friend in the beginning he was able to get over a more than likely greater love for his father than Romeo and Juliet if they would have thought it out they could have found true love through another significant other in their life. The only reason their love wasn't able to succeed because the hasty decisions Romeo and Juliet made when blinded by their hate and love. Their hearts mislead them into difficult predicaments which dug their love into an impossible grave to escape. The love they shared at the end of the story was true but constricted and eventually suffocated by the blind decisions the two lovers
made.
