Within the work setting it is imperative that records and reports are maintained regarding all aspects of the running of the home and the young person’s daily life. Each daily report is hand written noting the date, times of events, people involved, staff on duty and the thoughts and feelings of all involved. Within the report there are references to any subsequent actions which may have been taken for example if a risk assessment has needed updated or a review of the care plan.
Part of the training staff undertake is Team Teach. Many of the young people in my care can easily find themselves in crisis and Team Teach training offers training in de-escalation techniques, how to identify at which point in the cycle the young person is at and what can be done to diffuse the situations. As a last resort how to use safe restraint techniques. The documentation for this practice is two fold. Following any restraint documentation is forwarded to the Manager responsible for Team Teach within the company, she assesses all of the information and forwards a report to Team Teach. The physical intervention form is legal documentation and as such can be used in court. Through supervision and training and staff meetings the importance of health and safety in the workplace is always on the agenda for discussion. Staff are given the opportunity to voice if they feel there is a weakness in any area. If this is the case it is reported immediately to the manager responsible for health and safety for review.
