Medicated chewing gums are solid or semi-solid pharmaceutical dosage forms which contains one or more active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and water-soluble or -insoluble excipients that is blended with a water-insoluble gum base. The drug product is intended to be chewed in the oral cavity for a specific period of time, after which the insoluble gum base is discarded. Currently available Medicated Chewing Gums (MCG) are for pain relief, smoking cessation, travel illness, and freshening of breath. Also, a large number of chewing gum intended for prevention of caries, xerostomia alleviation and vitamin/ mineral supplementation are currently available.
