It has many positive externalities, one of which is underlying health problems that can be stopped or lowered by the use of therapeutic gum, things such a s smoking and unclean teeth can be helped by this. Products such as Nicotine are a good example. Because there are chewing gum products that can lower the amount of nicotine a person craves in a certain amount of time, quitting smoking becomes a lot easier, this then means that issues like Lung Cancer are less prominent, saving the NHS and therefore the government money which could otherwise be spent on opportunity costs such as education and the armed forces. Also known as Merit/Public goods. (Although in some cases education can come under the Quasi public good bracket). The supply curve of therapeutic gum could also be seen as too far left due to the suppliers themselves not actually benefiting from the externalities of their product, mainly because the externalities affect what the government would have to pay for if their product was not…

Some would have you believe that gum chewing is a nasty habit and that it should be banned from schools. At SAS it is banned--- just like it is banned in all of Singapore. However, chewing gum should be allowed--- promoted in fact--- because of the many significant benefits of gum chewing. With the research I’ve done about the book being banned, my opinion still remains that it’s not right to keep it away from children. I think schools should be allowed to provide the book to students, but I don’t think they should make them read it. If the child wants to read the book and their parents approve, it should be allowed in school libraries. If the book is offencive to you, don’t read it. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean nobody should be able to enjoy…

One reason why gum should be allowed to be chewed at students’ disposal, is because of it’s ability to help kids focus. Many students become very bored as class goes on, especially during independent work. Popping in a piece of gum will put a nice refreshing flavor in their mouth, and the chewing of the gum will most likely not make them tired, slouchy, or bored. According to Andrew Scholey from the University of Swinburne, gum chewing can help you focus because of the fact that gum flows insulin inside your brain which then enhances learning and memory capabilities. Because of chewing gums ability to help you focus it can make it much easier to be a more…
