The experiment showed that age and body weight contribute greatly to the blood pressure of an individual. Persons that were obese and in an older age demographic had greater instances of hypertension. Hypertension occurred earlier in males than in females. Hypertension seemed to be greater influenced by behavior/lifestyle choices than family history.…
The credible article from the University library I selected was The Family and Consumer Sciences Research Journal, by McFadden, Joan R; Rawson Swan, Kay T. I selected this article, because it shows the changes in health and family roles that can lead to increased stress and/or depression or alternatively to feelings of well-being ultimately resulting in a midlife crisis. In the article the authors suggest that there is a need for "life transition" courses for women who are interested in understanding how to improve their health and well-being. The actual midlife crisis starts in order to establish the suggested changes…
However, as per the American Heart Association (AHA) (2015), the risk of heart disease increases with increase in the age (both men and women) with most them being 60 years and older. The age, along with some other risk factors (both modifiable and non-modifiable) can contribute to the heart diseases in any individual (“Cardiovascular Disease,” 2011). The modifiable risk factors are hypertension, obesity, cholesterol levels, smoking habit, diet, diabetes, and physical activity (“Cardiovascular Disease,” 2011). Non-modifiable risk factors include age, family history, and gender (“Cardiovascular Disease,” 2011). Therefore, the population of interest in this initiative is the adults and older adults with both modifiable and non-modifiable risk…

Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. A normal blood pressure is 120/80. A blood pressure reading higher or equal to 140/90 is considered abnormally high. Elevated blood pressure means your heart is working harder than normal, putting both your heart and arteries under great strain. High blood pressure is serious business. On average, people with uncontrolled hypertension are:

Seven times more likely to have a stroke.

Six times more likely to develop congestive heart failure.

Three times more likely to have a heart attack.

Different types of hypertension

From my research, I didn't find any other types of hypertension.

What are some causes?
In 90% of cases, the cause of hypertension is unknown. This is called "essential hypertension". The other 10% of cases is called "secondary hypertension". Secondary hypertension is caused by kidney disease, severe narrowing of the aorta, tumors in the adrenal gland, or hardening of the arteries. There are many factors associated with high blood pressure, including smoking, age, race, a high-salt diet, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, use of birth control pills, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle.

what age is at risk?
If you are a man from 35 to 50, you are in a high-risk zone for hypertension, this is especially true if hypertension also runs in your family. It is less likely for women to have high-blood pressure, but the risk increases after menopause.

Symptoms
There are usually no symptoms for hypertension. This is why it is often called the "silent killer". Actually, you could have hypertension for years and not know about because you feel fine. But symptoms do show up if the case is severe. The prevalence of hypertension increases with age and is higher in African American than in Whites. In comparison to whites, African Americans developed high BP at an earlier age, and it is more severe at any decade. As a result, African Americans have a higher prevalence of stroke, heart disease, and end-stage renal disease when compared with whites. In addition, African American has a higher mortality rate at every level of BP elevation compared with whites. In both rises, the prevalence is higher in less educated than in more educated people. Hypertension is more prevalent in men than in women until age, 55 after age 55 it is more prevalent in women than men. The status of hypertension control has improved considerably over the past years. Large-scale education programs provided by various organizations have increased awareness of hypertension. The percentage of patients with hypertension on medication who have their BP controlled has also improved substantially. The diagnosis of hypertension requires that elevated readings be present on at least three occasions during several weeks.…

As the Baby Boomer generation continues to grow older, their concerns have shifted to their health, money and retirement. The days of wondering where their next vacation should be and whether their bonus check will be as much as they deserve are passing. Today, Baby Boomer issues are mostly about concerns with maintaining their health and having enough money to live comfortably through their years. As people grow older, they often experience problems with their health. Their bodies grow more fragile and susceptible to diseases. Many people 50 years of age and older are reporting health problems that were not experienced by people in their same age group long ago. This problem is created by…
Hypertension (HTN) is a genetic disease which tends to run in families. Even though every race and ethnicity can be affected by HTN the highest prevalence is in the African American communities (Opara, Hawkins, Sundaram, Merchant, Rasmussen & Holmes, 2013). During my survey, I conversed with 50 people in my community, 48 had a mother or father with HTN, the other two were uncertain. Twenty-five of the 50 people I conversed with admitted to being diagnosed with HTN. Only five of the 25 diagnosed with HTN checked their blood pressure (BP) on a daily basis. In the United States, HTN is the leading cause of mortality among people with cardiovascular disease (Opara et al., 2013). The…
Late Adulthood is a time in people’s lives when they come to terms with their lives and reevaluate what they have done or accomplished in the lieu of what they still would like to accomplish for the remainder of their lives. During this stage of life adults around the ages of 65 begin to experience a variety of changes in their physical appearance and a decline in their health. The process of aging in an individual occurs at different speeds and during this stage older adults are being treated as second-class citizens especially by younger adults. The skin begins to wrinkle at an accelerated rate, the senses lose their acuity, and the voice becomes less powerful. Other physical changes occur like the loss of teeth, bones become brittle, joints become stiff, and the graying of hair.…
