Historians Honesty Analysis

Historians believe that honesty and integrity should be the main bases that form the work of all historians. Historians should try to understand the historical developments and how they connect with our society today and also the future. In the American Historical Association it talks about how practicing history means acknowledging ones debt and to the work of other historians. I believe that’s what most authors see as an issue in the presentation of history today. “Plagiarism violates the historical record by failing to reveal the secondary sources that have contributed to a given line of argument.” The honesty of the work is the historian’s main responsibility no other individual can be in charge of it. It’s also the teachers, scholars and
public historian’s responsibility to be serious about the basic standards of ethical conduct in their discipline. This included preventing the use of other’s work. Historians should ethically present the past to present by not changing and information. If historians are wise to remember that they will never monopoly on their own discipline, and that this is a strength rather than a weakness. Then we do not have to worry about whether the information being told is ethically correct or not. Also if we start teaching that specific logic now then future historians will know how important honestly is and how it is so engraved in the profession. Personally I feel that without historians we wouldn’t know the past events that occurred. If we don’t know the past mistakes made then we cannot now how we can improve in the future. All in All I believe that historians should tell history in a way that is honest and ethically correct. I also believe that in order to change plagiarism we need to make more awareness about it so people know how wrong it is to steal other peoples work.
