Home Ownership Workshop
The Home Ownership Workshop was held on Saturday, February 6, 2016. It was held in the Logan City Library and was put on by the USU Family Life Center - Housing and Financial Counseling. There were several staff, interns, and community members that presented at this workshop. The following is an overview of what each speaker presented on, and may not be in chorological order of how they presented the information.
Loryn Law: Loryn first introduced and welcomed everyone to the workshop. We did a fun game where we split up into groups and did an activity on the board of ice breaker questions. She first presented on housing sustainability. We went over mortgage basics. This way we were able to learn the basics of what is all in your mortgage and what you need to know when applying for a mortgage. I really loved how she emphasized that we should use our budget as a guide. It really went hand in hand with what Loryn had taught right before. Once we learned the mortgage basics we were taught how the mortgage sustainability worksheet goes. Ellie did a wonderful job at explaining this work sheet, especially for those in the class that had never seen it before. We also were able to go over debt, mortgage information and ratios, and also interest. These were a part of the worksheet, so we just briefly covered these topics as we filled out the work sheet. At the very end of the day Ellie present again. This time was just giving a general review of how the workshop went. She asked what went well, what people like the most throughout the day, and asked if anyone had any addition questions. It was done in a very professional …show more content…
The first time was covering home inspection and healthy homes. I loved how she shared personal experiences and gave general information on this topic. I also liked how she emphasized that not all home inspections will look for certain things, so make sure your inspection covers the issues you want them to look at. The second time she presents she discussed closing on the loan. We first went over what closing is. We then talked about closing costs, and who pays what. She also showed a loan estimate. This was a really great visual to see what is all included in the closing
