Honesty Is the Best Policy
Honesty is the Best Policy

As the saying goes, “ Honesty is the best Policy,” what does it mean by honesty? Honesty is actually the act or quality of being honest. Honesty is the total opposite of untruth. Unfortunately, people nowadays are being untruthful to God, themselves, and the people around them. Being honest is not always easy. As human beings we know how easy it is to fall into sin, unless there is someone spiritually strong to guide us. There are many reasons why honesty is the best policy. Firstly, we must be honest to God. God made honesty one of His commandments. Since God cannot lie, He sets the example for all of His people. If we love God, we will truly follow His commandments and will be honest. As it says in Hebrews 6:18-“ So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.” God made us in His image. We are spiritually and physically like God. If God does not lie, obviously He does not want us to lie. Secondly, we ought to be honest with ourselves as this will help us find it easier to be true to others. No one wants to be friends with a liar. A liar only knows how to spin tall tales and make a story more juicy by adding salt and pepper to it. As Proverbs 19:22 says,
“Better to be poor than a liar.” It is indeed with open arms that people accept friends who are conscientious, reliable, and virtuous. To further add, we will enjoy the confidence that no one or nothing can shake us from because when we are honest, this assurance helps us become immovable and consistent in our everyday journey and encounters with people around us. In conclusion, we must be honest to God, ourselves, and to the people around us. If we find it difficult to do this, we do not need to fret because He shows us many examples through His word on how to be honest. Sometimes, our spiritual vision is fogged with cataracts. Much to our dismay, we occasionally step

Lies are told around the world multiple times during the day. Everyone sitting in this room has probably once today, said a lie. Sometimes lying is understandable for someone’s protection but sometimes the truth is essential to the person. There are multiple things people say in a day that are seen as lies such as “That outfit looks really good on you!,” “It wasn’t me!” and “I’ll be with you in a few minutes.” Honestly is not always the best policy because in the end it does not make everything better. People tell little lies so that they protect someone they care about and not hurt the feelings of another person. Often, people say that honesty is the best policy and is defined as the act of telling the truth to the best of one’s knowledge. Coupled with the definition of honesty is the belief that telling the truth all the time is good because of certain reasons. Primary motive is that many consider saying the truth as an aid in improving one’s self. For instance, one project organizer asks one of the staff if the theme chosen for the occasion is well suited. Then, one of the personnel has the guts to tell the truth that a better theme is fitted for the event. The project organizer will then have a better idea, thereupon aiding to the betterment of the organized project. Likewise, saying the truth helps us to earn others’ trusts. According to Nathalie Himmelrich, in her article entitled Truth versus Honesty: Is there a Difference , even though the explanation of the word ‘trust’ does not distinctively take into account the word honesty, it is implied in the word. Similarly, stating what reality…

Next, being honest keeps trust with others. For example, Cohen states in the article, “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying” that “One key cost is credibility: Once a person finds out you lied, you lose currency in their eyes” (Para. 12). This shows how you should tell the truth instead of lying. This also shows how being honest keeps trust with others. Your credibility is not worth giving up for a lie.…

Most of what I know or think I know of other people springs from what I know of myself, and that includes the quality of honesty. Whether I know myself to be mostly honest or mostly dishonest, it is the basis of my perception and reaction by other people. My perceptions of others are strongly affected by my own experiences and the attitudes in me they create. If I am honest and inexperienced, what may be called innocent or naive by most, if not all, of those I encounter. But honesty does not necessitate gullibility. Just because I repeatedly meet, associate with and establish agreements with people whose concept of honesty leaves a lot to be desired, does not mean I must be conceptually blind to their attitudes, nor fall victim to them. Nor for that matter, be corrupted by their immoral practices.…
