House Of The Scorpion Analysis
Have you been treated badly because you are different from other people? The House of the Scorpion, written by Nancy Farmer, is about a boy, Matt, who gets treated differently because he is a clone. In my opinion, the theme is that don’t treat other people badly because they are different compared to you. Evidence from the book has Rosa treating Matt like an animal, the priest not allowing Matt in church because he’s a clone, and the gardeners building barriers and filling sawdust in his cell. Furthermore, there will be details explaining the evidence and it will be supporting the theme. The first piece of evidence from the book said that Matt had to lie on the cement floor without any covers, pillows, or a bed. The floor in the cell that Matt slept on was covered in cement. The farmers filled the cell with sawdust until it was tall as the door cell. No room in a person’s life should have too much dust or dirt in their house, unless they never clean up. Also, they built a tall barrier as tall as his waist so he could be slowed down if he ever tried to escape. They kept him in a cell like a wild animal. Nobody should ever be kept …show more content…
Matt had to use the newspapers in the corner since Rosa took away the waste bucket. Nobody should use newspapers in the corner, unless it is an animal. Rosa thinks Matt is an animal, that’s why Rosa took away the waste bucket and told the gardener to fill the room with sawdust. When Rosa took away the waste bucket, she said that’s what dogs do; which is saying that Matt is a dog. He felt dirty and ashamed while using the newspapers in the corner. Nobody should feel ashamed or dirty using the restroom. Also, Matt usually gets dragged by the hair. He feels pain as well. Rosa just doesn’t care since Matt is a clone. No one should be treated like that. Finally, there is only one more piece of evidence to support the

They were living in their own filth. They had only one spot to shower or bathe, go to the bathroom, or get drinking water, and it was from the stream that ran through the prison. This stream pretty quickly was contaminated due to the filth that the prisoners put in the water. People still went in and drank the water though because there was nowhere else they could go to do that. This caused thousands of prisoners to become sick with several different diseases such as dysentery and scurvy which would end up being one of the major causes of the high mortality rate in Andersonville. The standard of living in this prison was, quite obviously, extremely low. The commander of the Andersonville prison camp, Henry Wirz, claimed that he had put out several requests to the government to get more food and better living conditions at the camp but this request never ended up being fulfilled. Even outside of the stream everything was filthy and overcrowded. The prisoners had no other choice but to act like animals and so they…

Did you know that in 1996 a sheep named Dolly was cloned? It is true, scientists have been working on cloning living things. But they aren’t able to clone a human because that is not yet legal. In the book The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer a boy named Matt is the clone of a powerful drug lord named El Patron. He is living with a woman named Celia when he got hurt and had to be taken to the Big House, then he ends up meeting El Patron and living in the Big House. Throughout the story Matt starts making friends with different people that treat him like a human instead of a clone, Matt has a choice to make to see if El Patron is worth it for his body parts or not. I believe the overall theme of this story is friendship. I also think the message she is trying to get across is that friends are never apart, maybe in distance, never in heart. In the story Matt really only makes a few friends such as Celia, Tam Lin, and Maria are three of the main ones that treated him like a human.…

People enjoy watching movies related to our own destruction or the end of the world. It seems that having the sensation that our destiny is to try to survive from an apocalypses, zombies or monsters is very interesting to people. This sensation is because “monsters can stand as symbols of human vulnerability and crisis, and such they play imaginative foils for thinking about our own responses to menace” (Asma, 2016). The movie “ Dawn of the Dead” is a good example of how a group of people coexisting within a mall tries to deal with each other’s personalities and behaviors, and how they fight against the zombies in order to survive. Also, this movie is a reflection of how people would react towards an event that paralyzes the world. Finally, movies about the destruction of the humanity transmit that most of these events start all of the sudden; In other words, humans are not prepare to deal with it because they did not expect it.…

In Never to Dream of Spiders by Audre Lorde, the speaker attempts to move on from the loss of their significant other. In the first line, they say, “Time collapses between the lips of strangers.” (Lorde) They spend a great deal of time with strangers because they aim to erase the pain of their loved one’s death from their mind. A frequent method for moving on from someone is to cling on to any relationship possible. The narrator occupies themselves with anyone they can find, as it is easier than dwelling on their agonizing heartbreak. They clearly strive to heal from their anguish by seeking comfort from strangers in their new relationships. In stanza four, the narrator wistfully reminisces of “The smell of your neck in August.” (Lorde). The…

The house for the lost soul. Absent-mindedly, 17-year-old Trey Fierce read the line of words carved on the wood plank on the wall which were a subtle depiction of everyone whose life thrown into this place; the facility for the mentally incompetent, the unbalanced person, the deranged - those were just a few of the names. Whoever had said that madness was always in the form of frenzy and hysteria, must have never dealt with madness itself. It was often soundless and discreet, appeared in many tender forms, crawling steadily into the brain, and later it became an integral part of you; it slowly became you.…
